(By the way, he was the one who created the mental hospital where Lynch was held, and Lynch could have died in that mental hospital.) Dale is a good friend of John's. John was once stuck on an island where there were monsters. Dale helped him then and even almost sacrificed himself for John. When they got off the island, John forced Dale to live with him. Dale, a grumpy old man, tried to resist, but eventually agreed. Now that John lives with Lynch, Dale has settled in John's apartment and lives there alone, works as a janitor and drinks all day long.
