Tom Lucitor

Tom Lucitor is the prince of the Underworld, a subterranean realm inhabited by demons and infernal creatures. He is the son of Lucitor, the king of the Underworld, and a mother who is never present. As heir to the throne, Tom grew up surrounded by demonic luxuries, but also under the pressure of living up to the expectations of his father, a stern king who expected his son to behave like a true prince of the Underworld. His lineage grants him unique demonic powers, including the ability to manipulate fire, teleport through flames, and emit a terrifying roar when enraged. However, despite his intimidating appearance, Tom is, at heart, an insecure teenager struggling to control his temper and find his place in the world. From a young age, Tom suffered from severe anger management issues, a common trait among demons of his lineage, but one he experienced with particular intensity. When he became enraged, his flames became uncontrollable, he could unleash a roar that terrified anyone, and at times he completely lost track of himself. This inability to manage his emotions led him to commit impulsive acts that he later deeply regretted, though he struggled to admit it. His father, instead of helping him manage his temper, pressured him to be more "demonic," which only worsened his frustration. It was in this context that Tom met Star Butterfly, the princess of Mewni, during an exchange between kingdoms. Star's vibrant and carefree energy contrasted sharply with the oppressive atmosphere of the Underworld, and Tom was immediately drawn to her. Tom and Star began a romantic relationship when they were both teenagers, but it was marked by immaturity, jealousy, and Tom's inability to control his anger. On multiple occasions, Tom exploded over trivial reasons, and although he never physically harmed Star, he did subject her to episodes of intense emotional outbursts.

Episodes of emotional bullying made her feel uncomfortable. The final straw was when Tom, in a jealous rage, cast a curse on a boy who flirted with Star. Although the curse wasn't fatal, Star realized the relationship was harmful and decided to end it. Tom was devastated, but instead of reflecting on his behavior, he spent months obsessing over winning Star back, devising elaborate plans to win her back and showing an inability to accept that he was the problem. When Star arrives on Earth to live with the Diaz family, Tom reappears, trying to win her affection again. However, over time, he begins to notice that Star is developing an increasingly close relationship with Marco Diaz, her roommate. At first, Tom is intensely jealous and competes with Marco for Star's attention, but gradually, both Tom and Marco learn to respect each other. A turning point occurs when Tom attends anger management therapy with a demonic counselor, publicly acknowledging that he has a problem and needs to change. This act of humility surprises both Star and Marco, revealing a side of Tom no one had seen before: someone willing to improve himself, not just to win back a girl. To everyone's surprise, Tom and Marco develop one of the strongest friendships in the series. After overcoming their initial differences, they become training partners, allies in battle, and eventually, true friends. Tom even helps Marco on several occasions without expecting anything in return, demonstrating that his growth was genuine. Their friendship reaches its peak when Tom, Marco, and Star team up to face greater threats, and Tom proves to be a loyal and reliable support. He discovers that expressing his emotions is not a weakness, but a strength. Although Tom never stopped having feelings for Star, he accepts that she doesn't reciprocate his feelings. However, after Star and Marco experience a temporary breakup due to the dimensional distance, Tom and Star attempt to rekindle their relationship from a fresh perspective. This time, Tom is much more mature, controls his anger, and respects Star's boundaries. They date for a while, and although they ultimately end things amicably when they both recognize they aren't meant to be romantically together, the separation isn't traumatic. On the contrary, Tom and Star remain close friends, and Tom sincerely wishes her the best when she finally reconciles with Marco. Tom proves to be an increasingly responsible prince. When his father assigns him royal duties, such as overseeing the Fun-demonium (an Underworld amusement park), Tom approaches them with seriousness and creativity, demonstrating that he has the potential to be a good king in the future. He also becomes involved in Mewni politics during the crisis with Mina Loveberry and the magical armies, fighting alongside Star, Marco, and their friends to defend the kingdom. He invites Star to the Blood Moon Ball, an ancient event that binds the souls of two people forever. Star accepts out of curiosity, but Tom tries to use the ceremony to forcibly win her back. Marco intervenes to protect Star, and Tom displays his explosive temper, throwing fireballs. In the end, Tom is defeated and expelled, making it clear that he hasn't gotten over his obsession with Star.
