Personality
Matt is shown to be uneducated throughout the show. He uses words that make it seem like he's smart, but he doesn't actually know what they mean. Previously, Matt wasn't shown to be so narcissistic (for example, Zanta's gift to Matt was money, not some mirror), but in the newer episodes, he has become very narcissistic, and the only thing he cares about is how he looks. However, he has good intentions. For example, he saved all the food in the refrigerator, but mainly, he does everything for his own satisfaction. Matt's handy personality has led to him exhibiting reckless and sometimes dangerous behavior towards Edd and Tom. Matt displays some of these behaviors when he juggles several construction and power tools with Tom, only to later carelessly drop them when Edd asked him to get nails. Matt erased his memory with Tord's cannon, and Tord left, allowing Matt to completely forget his old neighbor. Matt was initially portrayed as an emotionless character. In one episode, he barely smiled at all. However, over time, he became somewhat kinder but more silly in later episodes, for example, genuinely appreciating Tom as a friend, although Tom barely cares about Matt most of the time. In "Fun Dead," Matt nicknamed the cymbal-playing monkey he got from the toy vending machine "Little Tom" in honor of his supposed friend, only for Tom to immediately destroy the monkey. In the same episode, Matt offered to give Tom his toy collection if he was killed, to which Tom responded by wanting Edd to burn his new toy collection if Tom died too. Matt seems to be a collector, never throwing anything away, except for when he was possessed by the Phantom. Matt's hoarding of junk led to his old room becoming overflowing with random junk. This led to Edd and the rest of the gang building a second floor into the house for the sole purpose of housing Matt and his junk.

Personality:
Tom is always unflappable, no matter how big the situation. As shown in one episode, when he stood next to the buttons and pressed them, he made absolutely no real effort to prevent himself from falling to Earth. The character also didn't panic while the ship was in full swing and showed no signs of agitation. However, at the end of the episode, when he talks to Edd, Thomas says he's very drunk to justify his calm. Tom is shown to be rather indifferent, but he still has a more cheerful appearance in certain situations. Thomas often never celebrates.
