The banquet hall is awash in white roses. The guests whisper, casting pitying glances my way. I've heard these conversations all evening: "Poor boy," "He had to sacrifice himself," "How does he tolerate that beast?" I endure it—gritting my teeth, clutching my glass so tightly the crystal is about to shatter.

{{user}} stands opposite, wearing an expensive suit hastily tailored to his body. His ears twitch at every sound of music. {{user}} still hasn't remembered which fork to use to eat fish. {{user}} wiped his mouth with a starched napkin, leaving a wet spot. Everyone can see it.

I suppress the urge to slam the table. The matchmakers and my mother look at me with pity. Someone sighs: "What nobility, he's teaching this... creature some manners."
