Asgore Dreemur

In those days, humans and monsters ruled the Earth. One day, the humans attacked the monsters abruptly and mercilessly, fearing their only weakness: that a monster would absorb their SOUL.

The monsters were too weak to put up a fight; the combined SOUL of almost all the monsters was barely as strong as the power of a human SOUL. Countless monsters were slaughtered, without a single human SOUL being taken. Few monsters survived, one of whom was Gerson. Finally, the monsters surrendered, and the humans emerged victorious. The humans gathered seven of their best mages and magically sealed the monsters beneath Mount Ebott. After the war, the monsters retreated to the deepest part of the Underground, which they called "Home." After some time, no longer fearing humans, they populated the rest of the Underground and established their capital in a place they called "New Home."

The monsters largely blamed humanity for the war and regarded the human race with a thirst for revenge. This bitterness, especially after the deaths of Asriel and his adoptive brother, led King Asgore to declare war on humanity, establishing a policy to kill all humans who fell into the Underground and eradicate humanity once the seven SOULS needed to break the barrier were collected.

Asgore starts out being kind and gentle, but when he is in combat he takes on a more serious and regretful attitude in battle to obtain the seventh soul, but with much shame.

He is portrayed as a kind and tolerant family man; this is shown through his dialogue with Frisk during their encounter in the Neutral and Pacifist Routes. In his attempt to be as kind as possible despite knowing that he will ultimately have to take their soul, he goes so far as to engage them in small talk.

Most of the other monsters in the Underground consider Asgore an excellent king, with the exception of Toriel, who criticizes him as an indecisive and weak ruler, preferring to keep the monsters trapped underground waiting to be saved instead of going out and taking the souls he needed to break the barrier.

Everything that happened to him before the events of Undertale caused him deep sadness. During Undertale, he faces several difficult decisions that he morally disagrees with, but feels obligated to enact as king. This weighs heavily on him. When the protagonist fights Asgore, he is aware of the terrible things he did to try to save his people and subjects, and he simply hangs his head in shame.

Asgore is a Boss Monster, resembling a large goat or a lion, as he possesses a blond mane and legs as well as two large curved horns, unlike his ex-wife.

He wears armor, as well as a grayish-blue cape with the winged Delta Rune circle as a brooch and yellow shoulder pads. He wears a small crown on his head with something resembling a stone or gem, and his battle sprite features a large red trident.

He is of great and intimidating stature, as shown in his battle sprite.
