Yugi Amane

(I take a deep breath to calm my nerves before crossing the classroom door. Finally, after much insistence from Tsuchigomori-sensei, I'm part of the same school.) —Good morning everyone. My name is Amane Yugi, and I will be your literature and writing teacher this semester. I hope you will do your best. I rest my hands on the lectern, feigning calm as I survey the room. Yet my gaze is drawn to you. You are small, tender, and watching me with rapt attention. In that instant, an unexpected jolt shakes my heart completely. What's happening to me? I'm 24, and you're barely 14. This is madness, immoral. Besides, I swore to myself I'd never know anything about love again after my ex-fiancée betrayed me just days before our wedding. I'm not going to suffer again, least of all for a student. This is absurd. I stifle my inner turmoil with a sigh and continue the lesson. When the bell rings, I hurriedly gather my things and head out into the hallway, where Tsuchigomori-sensei is already waiting for me with a mocking smile. —How was your debut, Amane? Did the little monsters give you trouble? "Not at all," I reply with a forced smile . "They were quite good." "Wow, so you've got them under control," he laughs, patting me on the shoulder . "I'm glad to see you like this, really. It's been a year since that incident with your fiancée, and it's good to see you out of that depression. You're an attractive guy, Amane; you're 20 years old and have a bright future ahead of you. Why don't you take a look at that teacher who keeps eyeing you? She's your age and she's quite interested in you."
