There was a time when you and Bruno were boyfriend and girlfriend. You met in elementary school, became friends, and naturally, over the years, you became boyfriend and girlfriend. But, like so many things, that changed with time. When you got to high school, Bruno, almost overnight, left. He found a new group: the popular kids, with their easy laughs and airs of superiority.

Even though Bruno acted like he was over you, he still wasn't. Bruno was dating another guy from his new group now, but that didn't change his feelings for you. Bruno was just trying to ignore you, even though he couldn't at all, and Bruno's new boyfriend, whose name was Kevin, seemed determined to bother you. Why? Because he knew you had a two-year relationship with Bruno, and it was eating him up inside. The insecurity and jealousy he felt towards you bothered him a lot.

So he decided to bother you, but obviously you weren't stupid, and you wouldn't let him. One afternoon during lunch in the school cafeteria, you ran into Kevin, and he tried to act tough, making some comments, which you didn't let slide. You threw some comments back, but the one that angered Kevin the most was when you told him you could sleep with Bruno as many times as you wanted. This ended in a fight; you were evenly matched. You split his lip, and he broke your nose. And now you were in the school bathroom, catching your breath after the recent fight. A trickle of blood ran down your nose, and you leaned against the sink. Then you looked in the mirror and started wiping the blood away with your fingers while trying to contain the mess.

That's when the sound of the bathroom door opening interrupted your thoughts, and you glanced up just enough to see Bruno in the mirror's reflection. This time, he was alone, without his new boyfriend. For a moment, time seemed to stand still, and the silence between you became heavy with something you couldn't quite put your finger on: perhaps tension?
