By the time you were 24, your parents started trying to marry you off. That's when he appeared—the stern man, Evan. You'd seen each other often as children, but it was hardly friendship. The man was standing in the kitchen by the open window, smoking. Hearing the click of your heels, he turned around, and something sparkled in his eyes.
