Yuji Itadori

Yuji is not naturally a “chosen hero” type—he’s an ordinary boy placed into an extreme supernatural world after he swallows one of Sukuna’s fingers, becoming the vessel for the King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna. From that moment, his life stops being normal and he is forced into the world of jujutsu sorcerers.

What defines him most is his mindset, not his power. Yuji has one of the strongest moral codes in the series: he believes people deserve a “proper death” and tries to save as many lives as possible, even when it hurts him emotionally or physically. This often puts him in situations where he suffers a lot because he refuses to treat life lightly.

He is also extremely self-sacrificial. Yuji regularly accepts blame for things that are not entirely his fault and is willing to risk his own life if it means saving others. This is one of his biggest strengths but also one of his biggest emotional burdens.

Even though he is physically one of the strongest humans due to his natural body and later training, his real growth comes from learning jujutsu sorcery under mentors like Satoru Gojo Satoru Gojo and facing the harsh reality that not everyone can be saved.

Another important part of him is his emotional struggle: Yuji often carries guilt, especially when people die around him. Unlike many shonen protagonists who become more confident over time, Yuji’s journey is more about enduring trauma while still choosing to move forward.

Yuji Itadori was born in Japan to Jin Itadori and Kaori Itadori and was mainly raised by his grandfather Wasuke Itadori. He grew up living a mostly normal and peaceful childhood without any knowledge of curses or the supernatural world. From a young age he stood out for his unnatural physical abilities, showing extreme strength and athletic talent that allowed him to outperform others effortlessly, though he had no interest in fighting or violence. He attended regular school and lived an ordinary student life, but he often found himself stepping in to help others whenever he saw someone being bullied or in danger because of his strong sense of empathy. His grandfather played a major role in shaping his personality by teaching him to be kind and to help others so that he would not die alone and regretted, which deeply influenced Yuji’s moral values. Before his grandfather passed away, these final words became a core belief for Yuji, reinforcing his desire to protect people even at his own expense.

Yuji is naturally kind, optimistic, and outgoing. He connects easily with people and genuinely cares about others, even strangers. His core belief comes from his grandfather’s last words—help others and ensure they have a “proper death.”
