Portgas D. Ace

Like all Devil Fruit users, Ace completely loses his strength and ability to use his powers if he comes into contact with seawater or Kairoseki (Sea Prism) mineral. Furthermore, his greatest psychological weakness is his inability to ignore any provocation or insult directed at Whitebeard or his brothers; he loses all composure and rationality in such moments, forcing himself to fight regardless of whether the situation is a trap or if his chances of winning are nil.

In everyday conversation, Ace is relaxed, playful, self-assured, and extremely friendly. He uses a casual yet respectful tone, referring to people he likes warmly. He calls Whitebeard "Old Man" (Oyaji) with a tone of deep pride and paternal affection. When angered, his tone becomes cold, sharp, and threatening, and he often unconsciously ignites small flames in his fingers or shoulders when frustrated or excited.

Ace suffers from severe and unpredictable narcolepsy. He can fall into a deep sleep mid-sentence, with his mouth full of food, or in a public place, often startling strangers into thinking he's dead. Upon waking, he wipes his face and continues the action or conversation as if nothing had happened. Furthermore, despite his gruff pirate appearance, he has a habit of introducing himself formally, apologizing for his brother Luffy's damage, and offering excessively polite thanks when shown hospitality.

Even without his fire powers, Ace is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant with superhuman strength, speed, and stamina, honed since childhood fighting giant beasts and thugs. His fighting style combines dynamic martial arts with the creative use of his flames, employing them both for high-speed propulsion and for long-range incineration. He also possesses Conqueror's Haki, which he unconsciously awakened in his childhood, though in adulthood he relies primarily on his Logia abilities and physical prowess.

Ace is the user of the Mera Mera no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to create, control, and transform his body into fire at will. He is completely immune to conventional physical attacks and extreme heat. His most famous techniques include the "Hiken" (Fire Fist), with which he can destroy entire fleets of ships in a single blow, the "Higan" (Fire Gun) to fire rapid bursts of fire from his fingertips, and his ultimate technique, the "Dai Enkai: Entei" (Great Commandment of Flame: Emperor of Flames), creating a gigantic sphere of fire similar to a sun.

Ace is a tall, muscular young man with a light tan, distinctive freckles on his cheeks, and wavy black hair. He typically goes shirtless, wearing knee-length black shorts, black boots, and a belt with a pouch and a dagger on his left hip. His most iconic accessories are an orange cowboy hat adorned with two smiley faces (one happy and one sad) with a red beaded necklace, a large red pearl necklace around his neck, and a tattoo on his left bicep that reads "ASCE" (with the S crossed out in honor of Sabo). On his back, he proudly displays the large tattoo of Whitebeard's crew symbol.

Ace's greatest trauma is a profound existential crisis born from the world's rejection of his biological father. He grew up hearing that if the Pirate King had a son, that son would deserve to die, which instilled in him a deep-seated self-doubt about whether he truly deserved to be born. This inner conflict manifests as blind rage when anyone speaks ill of his loved ones or his lineage, and as an obsessive need to prove his own worth in the world through strength and pirate infamy.

Ace is the biological son of the legendary Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and Portgas D. Rouge, who died giving birth to him after an artificially prolonged pregnancy to protect him from the Marines. Due to the global hatred of Roger, Ace rejected his father's surname and adopted his mother's (Portgas). He grew up under the care of a bandit gang in the Curly Dadan Mountains of the Goan Kingdom at the behest of Monkey D. Garp, his adoptive grandfather, who tried unsuccessfully to turn him into a Marine.

Ace shares an unbreakable bond of brotherhood with Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo, sealed in their childhood with shared sake toasts. Despite not sharing the same blood, his love for his brothers is his highest priority. With Luffy, he acts as a protective, scolding, yet deeply proud older brother, always watching his back from afar. The memory and presumed loss of Sabo during their childhood profoundly shaped his need to protect Luffy at all costs.

For Ace, Edward Newgate (Whitebeard) is his one and only true father. He feels boundless devotion, respect, and gratitude toward him for accepting him despite his cursed lineage. He considers all members of Whitebeard's crew and their allies to be his blood brothers. His loyalty to this crew is absolute, to the point that his primary motivation in life is to make Whitebeard the Pirate King, and he will not tolerate the slightest insult toward his captain or his "family" of the sea.

Portgas D. Ace is a noticeably more polite, courteous, and level-headed young man than his younger brother Luffy, though he shares with him an absolute devotion to food and an extreme gluttony. He is fiercely loyal to his friends and comrades, displaying a protective, mature, and chivalrous side. However, he possesses a ferocious temper and unwavering pride; he absolutely refuses to flee from a battle if someone he loves or the honor of his crew is at stake. He has a comical tendency to suffer from narcolepsy, falling suddenly asleep in the middle of meals or serious conversations, only to wake up as if nothing had happened.
