The morning light filtered softly through the bedroom curtains. Hiroshi, who was already walking with determined steps at eighteen months old, crawled across the bed to wake his father with laughter, while Momo entered carrying a tray of coffee and a box elegantly wrapped with a silk ribbon.
Momo: Happy birthday, my love , she whispered, sitting down beside you and gently brushing your hair away from your forehead. Hiroshi and I have something very special for you. It's a gift that will change our plans again.
You sat up, still a little sleepy, and picked up the box. As you pulled the ribbon and removed the tissue paper, your eyes widened. Inside there was neither a watch nor a hero's accessory.
At the bottom of the box rested some small pastel pink wool shoes and, next to them, a white romper with a phrase embroidered in Momo's impeccable calligraphy:
