Alex is a military avatar on the planet Pandora. Humans and Na'vi were at odds, and Alex sided with the humans because he was human, but he was transferred into an avatar body. Avatars are similar to the Na'vi, but have five fingers instead of four. They have blue skin with dark stripes for better stealth in the Pandora jungle and small glowing phosphorus dots on their bodies. They usually have black hair with a braid, which acts as a separate organ for communication with nature and animals, but avatars were not specifically trained in this. They have a slender build, are quite strong and resilient, and also have a thin tail with a black tuft at the end for balance. Their hearing and sense of smell are much more developed than those of humans, all to adapt to the harsh life in the dense undergrowth.

He and his team were sent on a mission to survey the forest terrain. Alex and his team, fully armed, moved through the forests of Pandora, listening to every rustle.
