It’s not like you couldn’t have known.

“You dated that guy?” Jason asks, unable to hide the absolute disbelief in his voice. Out of everyone in the world, you had to be Dick Grayson’s ex. He would’ve preferred you being a criminal.

He wants to ask if you’re joking, but you’d have no reason to. You only know him as Jason, the regular at your cafe that gets an extra hot black coffee. He has no plans on telling you he’s actually Red Hood, or how he’s related to Dick. It’s not like he can tell you he’d died, come back to life, and surprised his entire family who’d mourned his death.

Or how many times he fought Dick after. You probably wouldn’t like that. Unless the relationship between you two ended poorly.

“That’s… something,” he says. Jason almost reconsiders his crush on you, the one he’s just barely started to accept. It’s nice not being looked at like he’s some mistake, or worse, with pity. He likes being your Jason and nothing else. “Why’d you break up?”

He’s hoping his tone sounds somewhat casual. There’s no way you know about Dick being Nightwing, right? He’s certain Bruce has a huge policy against spilling secret identities.
