summary

Mana Takamiya reported that Kurumi Tokisaki is the most dangerous spirit known. She has killed over 10,000 people, of whom an estimated 100 were victims of the Spacequake. Therefore, her title of worst spirit stems from the fact that she personally killed her victims with her own hands.

Kurumi Tokisaki used subtle and inexplicable methods to transfer into Shido Itsuka's class and get close to him. Her purpose was simple: to absorb Shido Itsuka and, in doing so, obtain the Reiryoku sealed within her body. During her time at Raizen High School, Kurumi nearly absorbed Shido. However, she was forced to retreat after being overwhelmed by Kotori Itsuka's destructive power. Kurumi claimed she simply wasn't prepared to face her, but later argued that she could have defeated Kotori if she had had more time.

Later, it was revealed (at the end of Volume 4) that Kurumi had a conversation with a mysterious being who seemed to be talking to herself. There, she declared that her true goal was to find Shido so she could use her Twelfth Bullet, Yud Bet, and travel 30 years back in time to kill the First Spirit. To accomplish this, she needed a significant amount of Reiryoku, which she did not possess, which is why she wanted to consume Shido. Shido contained the Reiryoku of three Spirits, enough for her to use the Twelfth Bullet and still have some power left to kill the First Spirit.

appearance

Kurumi is "a girl of astonishing beauty," as Shido Itsuka describes her. She appears elegant and has impeccable manners. She possesses pearly skin and long black hair, which she usually wears in two long pigtails. Her right eye has a reddish tint, while her left resembles the golden face of an inorganic clock, hidden by her bangs and only revealed when she transforms into her spirit form. When the clock-like hands of her eye are not moving, they are usually at the 3 o'clock position. Five years ago, Kurumi wore an eyepatch to conceal her left clock-like eye, though she now finds it embarrassing and covers it with her hair. As a human, and after being sealed, her left eye is identical to her right. As a university student, she begins wearing earrings. Her hair is now partially tied back with a red ribbon, leaving her left eye exposed.

Kurumi's astral dress is made of crimson and black ruffles, giving her the appearance of an elegant Gothic Lolita with two uneven pigtails that mimic the hour and minute hands of a clock. [6] On her head, she usually wears a large crimson net bow to hold her hair. She also wears a red and black choker. After absorbing Nia's Sephira Crystal, her astral dress acquires several crosses reminiscent of Nia's astral dress, similar to a nun's habit. Kurumi's height is said to be 157 cm, and her measurements are B85/W59/H87. When not in her spirit form, Kurumi usually wears the Raizen High School girls' winter uniform or a monochromatic black Gothic Lolita dress.

personality

Kurumi is a difficult person to decipher. She harbors an aversion to humanity that borders on distrust, a trait she shares with most other Spirits upon their debut. She is a talented actress, capable of feigning the guise of an innocent and curious young woman when necessary. This skill is evident when she enrolls at Raizen High School and speaks politely. However, beneath this mask hides a deranged woman, prone to uncontrollable fits of laughter and with no regard for human life, which she considers a source of sustenance to replenish her own time and, therefore, a disposable commodity.

However, behind his methods lies a twisted sense of justice, as the people he brutally murdered were potential rapists and animal abusers. Furthermore, a clear example of his sense of justice lies in his ultimate goal: to travel through time, kill the First Spirit, prevent the Spacequakes from occurring, and, in the process, save millions of lives. This goal led him to<Phantom> to consider her a kind person, albeit sarcastically.

In retrospect, Kurumi retains a certain innocence that her psychotic behavior hasn't completely destroyed; she has a soft spot for small animals and other creatures. She once murdered four humans not because she needed to make up time, but because they were trying to kill a kitten. She also seemed to yearn for a normal life, a chance at redemption, as Shido was able to communicate with one of her multiple timelines and almost convinced her before the real Kurumi interrupted.

personality

However, despite her redeeming quality of not killing without reason, Kurumi doesn't consider herself a great person and even seems to hate being called one. When Shido stated that he wouldn't abandon her despite her being a murderer, she responded by using her Time-Eating City against the students of Raizen High School. She even summoned a Spacequake, which could have killed them all, in an attempt to make him leave her. Furthermore, when<Phantom> When a kind person called her, Kurumi's initial reaction was to try to shoot him.

Her ability to summon clones of herself from her past adds even more complexity to her character. The clones are essentially herself, meaning they share the same personality. However, they also possess a degree of free will, even if they share memories, goals, fears, and obsessions. Because they were created from the past, the clones may contain traits that Kurumi no longer possesses, particularly her former chunnibyo habits. Kurumi has shown some embarrassment regarding this part of her past and those clones in particular whenever it's mentioned.

Kurumi seems to have a particular fondness for cats, as demonstrated by her brutal killing of a group of men who were shooting her with pellet guns. In an omake, it's shown that this embarrasses her greatly. When Shido and Tohka captured her, she went so far as to have one of her clones impersonate her and "eliminate" her so she could get out of trouble without ruining her reputation.

personality

Before becoming a Spirit, Kurumi possessed a strong sense of justice. While she lamented the inequality in the world, she always had a deep desire to help those in need. This quality was considered pure and naive, which Mio exploited to deceive her and transform her into a Spirit who hunted other Spirits incompatible with their Sephira Crystals. After becoming more cynical, Kurumi demonstrated a greater resilience to despair, being the only Spirit who did not transform immediately after witnessing Shido's death throughout her numerous time loops.

As a verbal tic, Kurumi has a habit of saying "Ara, Ara" (あら、あら) when something particularly amuses her. Additionally, Kurumi also has a distinctive laugh, "Kihihihihi" (きひひひひ).

history

Background Kurumi was an ordinary human before becoming a Spirit. She grew up in a wealthy family and was beloved by her parents. However, one day, while walking home, she was attacked by a monster. She was saved when a girl dressed in a light-colored gown killed the monster. The girl introduced herself as Mio Takamiya and claimed to be an "ally of justice." She told Kurumi that the monster was called a Spirit and asked if she wanted a power like hers to help her fight them. Wishing to protect her family and friends, Kurumi accepted the offer and received the Sephira Crystal containing Zafkiel. Afterward, she merged with him, unknowingly transforming into a Spirit.

Working alongside Mio, Kurumi began hunting Spirits, killing at least 50 during that time. However, one day after killing a Spirit, Kurumi left Mio with the usual task of cleaning the body. After leaving as usual, she decided to return and invite Mio to her friend Sawa's house, hoping that an adorable cat might thaw Mio's usual melancholic state. However, to Kurumi's horror, instead of a monster lying on the floor, she found her best friend Sawa dead, with Mio holding a red Sephira Crystal. Realizing that Sawa was the Spirit and that she had killed her, Kurumi began to reverse time. However, before the transformation was complete, she used her Fourth Dalet Bullet to reverse time and prevent the transformation by returning to a moment before she was overwhelmed by despair.

history

Mio then revealed the truth: her identity as the First Spirit and how she was bonding Sephira Crystals to humans, transforming them into monsters, only to kill the host and slowly refine the Crystals. Mio claimed she intended to entrust the Sephira Crystals to chosen ones among humanity, but hesitated when questioned about her motives. Mio then thanked Kurumi for all her work thus far before causing Kurumi to lose consciousness. After an indeterminate amount of time, Kurumi awoke in a giant crater after causing a Spacequake, remembering nothing except how her Angel's powers worked. Just as an AST team prepared to attack her, Kurumi fled the scene, escaping into her own shadow. Though deliberately distrustful of her current situation, she ultimately decided to use the Tenth Bala Yud on herself to regain her memories. Afterward, Kurumi vowed to use her Twelfth Bala Yud Bet to travel back in time, kill Mio, and prevent the existence of the Spirits.

history

At some point, using her ability to create clones of herself, Kurumi had built a vast information network. To buy enough time to use the Twelfth Bullet, she and her clones began attacking humans, claiming many lives in the process. However, the numerous lives she had taken attracted the attention of DEM, who sent Mana Takamiya after her. They fought many battles, during which Mana always killed her. However, unbeknownst to Mana, she was only killing Kurumi's clones. Much later,<Phantom> He appeared before Kurumi at some unknown time and told her about Shido Itsuka, along with the Reiryoku sealed within his body. With nothing to lose, Kurumi infiltrated Raizen High School by unknown means to confirm if this story was true.

powers and abilities

Spiritual form Living up to her reputation as the Worst Spirit, Kurumi is a brutal fighter with a unique set of powers that make her a formidable adversary. Her vast army of clones makes her nearly impossible to match in a battle of attrition, and she is said to have been the Spirit who inflicted the most damage during the assault on DEM's Japanese branch headquarters. Interestingly, Kurumi is a Spirit who has absorbed two Sephira Crystals, granting her access to two different Angels.

time manipulation

Through a combination of time, shadows, and Reiryoku as fuel, Kurumi can manipulate time through her bullets. Both her flintlock pistol and musket possess special bullets that can cause different effects on the target's time depending on the bullet's number.

To activate any power she needs, she must first summon her Angel (regardless of whether she has already summoned it or not) and point her flintlock pistol at the number on the Angel's bullet, where the power is charged into her weapon. Then, she fires the charged pistol at her target; if Kurumi intends to use the effect on herself, it will fire. The bullets take effect the instant they hit their target and cause no damage, even though they appear identical to bullets used offensively.

The drawback of these bullets is that they consume her time, or in other words, her life force. This is visually represented by the clock in her left eye rotating clockwise. The cost also varies between bullets, with some costing more time than others. The last two bullets can even cost her all the time she has left. If Kurumi cannot use one of the bullets, the corresponding number on the clock...<Zafkiel> It turns off.

time manipulation (skills)

First Aleph Bullet ( , Arefu? ): Accelerates external time at its target. Kurumi frequently uses this bullet to increase her own speed in battle. Second Bullet ( , Bēto ? ): Slows down the external time of its target. Used to stop an approaching enemy; this bullet is an alternative to the Seventh Bullet should Kurumi wish to save time. Second Shot Beethoven Third Bala Gimmel ( , Gimeru ? ): Accelerates internal time to make the subject age. Third Bala Gimmel Fourth Bullet Dalet ( , Daretto? ): Rewinds time on a target. However, despite restoring physical injuries, it cannot resurrect those who are already dead. Fourth Bullet Dalet Fifth Bullet Hei ( , Hei ? ): Allows Kurumi to see a glimpse of the future. Excessive use of this bullet exhausts Kurumi's mind due to the large number of visions she sees. Sixth Bullet Vav ( , Vavu? ): Sends the target's consciousness into the body of a past version of themselves. Consequently, since only the mind is sent, the Reiryoku and the time spent traveling are reset with each loop, allowing this bullet to be used repeatedly until the accumulated mental fatigue becomes too much for the user. Unlike the Twelfth Bullet, the user cannot control the exact time period they return to, and can only travel back a few days at most, regardless of how long it is used. However, the user will remain in the past indefinitely. Because she gave Shido a thank-you kiss for saving her from Kotori, this bullet was sealed for Kurumi after the events of Volume 4. Six Bullets

time manipulation (skills)

Seventh Bullet Zayin ( , Zain ? ): Temporarily freezes the target's time.Seven bulletsZain Eighth Bullet Het ( , Hetto ? ): Creates a temporary clone of the target. Eight bullets Head Ninth Bullet Tet ( , Tetto? ): Allows Kurumi to share her senses with someone in a different timeline. Because she rarely uses this bullet, Kurumi admits that it still requires considerable effort to share her thoughts. Tenth Bullet Yud ( , Yuddo ? ): Allows the user to glimpse the past of any object they hit. By using this bullet on herself, Kurumi was able to recover her memories from her amnesia. Ten Bullets Yud Eleventh Bullet Yud Aleph ( , Yuddo Arefu? ): Sends its target into the future. The distance traveled forward in time is exponentially proportional to the amount of time and Reiryoku invested. After the bullet's effects wear off, users are sent back to their original time period. Eleven Bullets Yud Aleph The Twelfth Bullet, Yud Bet (兝子子子子), sends its target to the past. It shares the same drawback as the Eleventh Bullet in terms of the cost of the time travel duration, and likewise, it returns its users to their original era once the effect wears off. As seen in Kurumi's experiments with this bullet on Origami and Shido, this method of time travel to the past can cause stable time loops or alter the course of history. Twelve bullets When Kurumi temporarily retrieves Zafkiel from Beast's third sword, she is unable to use Dalet, Vav, Zayin, Het, Yud Aleph, and Yud Bet because her parallel world self still resides in her world. She was also unwilling to use her own lifespan as fuel for her remaining bullets, but jokes that she might have used them if she had been allowed to buy time with the citizens sheltering in the Spacequake refuges.

time-devouring city (1)

Although Kurumi's Angel is very powerful, it consumes a portion of her time (life force) each time she uses her special bullets. To replenish her life force, Kurumi possesses the ability to absorb the time of anyone who enters the boundary of her shadow. To attack a large crowd, she can summon a red barrier that serves a similar function, which she calls the Time-Devouring City (時喰みの城, Toki Hami no Shiro). While consuming time, her clock eye rotates counterclockwise. Kurumi can drain her victims' time to the point of their perishing. As befits her title of Worst Spirit, many have fallen prey to this. However, after being defeated by Kotori, she generally refrains from taking all of her victims' time if possible in order to remain hidden from DEM and Ratatoskr's radar.

time-devouring city (2)

Although normally used to replenish time, it can also be used to directly replenish Reiryoku. Upon hearing Origami's request to travel through time, Kurumi used a specialized version of her shadow to swiftly take a portion of her Reiryoku as payment for the journey. In preparation for the war against DEM, Kurumi used her clones, also employing this technique, to greatly expand the reach of her shadow to the size of an entire city. However, such large-scale replenishment is far more exhausting and requires a greater degree of concentration, as Kurumi would normally only use her shadow to fill the size of a single building. [7] While the ability can consume the lifespan of non-humans, there is little benefit for beings with considerably shorter lifespans. [8]

However, Shido has been shown to passively resist the debilitating effects of the Time-Eating City thanks to the Spirit Reiryoku he had sealed up to that point. Similarly, ordinary humans empowered by Miku's March have also been shown to overcome this effect. Nevertheless, in the former case, Kurumi has demonstrated the ability to immobilize Shido in order to drain his energy if her shadow condenses to focus solely on him. [9]

clones

Combined with the power of the Eighth Bullet, it can create a clone that possesses all of its experiences, memories, and abilities; these clones use its weapons, summon and dispel Spacequakes at will, and even summon the<Ciudad del Tiempo Devorador> These clones are kept in the "storage half" of her shadow and can be deployed en masse at Kurumi's request. While still within Kurumi's shadow, the clones can also immobilize targets by taking the form of long, white hands with a red outline. The clones are often used for reconnaissance and can transmit information verbally or directly to the original Kurumi's head, although the latter method requires<Yud> and it carries the risk of overloading it with too much information at once.

However, her clones are weaker than the real Kurumi and cannot use her Angel's time-manipulating bullets. The clones' physical abilities and longevity are adjusted according to the time spent on the Eighth Bullet. In other words, to produce more durable clones, Kurumi needs to invest even more time. Furthermore, since these are past versions of herself, they can sometimes harbor feelings that the current Kurumi no longer possesses. Therefore, Kurumi will not hesitate to kill these clones if they disobey her. In desperate situations, the time spent creating the clones can also be sacrificed as direct fuel for her other bullets. However, thanks to the Sixth Bullet's unique time-traveling mental properties, Kurumi was able to recover her clones and time with each loop by using them to activate the bullet.

clones (2)

If a clone dies, its body will dissolve into shadows. If the original Kurumi dies, all the clones will disappear. However, Kurumi managed to temporarily keep a clone alive by sending it to the future with her Eleventh Bullet. She was even able to transfer her memories and the Sephira Crystal to a clone before the original body died, though this required preparation. Nevertheless, Kurumi would later admit that, at best, this was only a temporary measure due to a clone's naturally short lifespan. Consequently, Kurumi had to restore her original body with the Fourth Bullet and then transfer everything back to it to fully stabilize her condition.

shadow manipulation

Kurumi can quickly enter any shadow to make a swift escape. The territory within her own shadow functions as her personal pocket dimension. According to Kurumi, her shadows are composed of two layers. The first is a free storage space where she can safely deposit and summon her clones at any time. The second is a digestive stomach where she breaks down her victims to absorb their time. Since it's similar to looking inside her own stomach, Kurumi cannot check or inspect the victims sent to this latter area. Her ordinary bullets are also created from condensed portions of her shadow, allowing for rapid reloading after each shot.

Rasiel

Angel: Rasiel (Whispered Scriptures, Raziel Rajieru? lit. "Book of the Apocalypse")

Weapon: Book

After Kurumi extracted the Qlipha Crystal from Nia Honjo of Sir Isaac Ray Pelham Westcott, she transformed it into a Sephira Crystal with<Dalet> before joining him. As a result, she obtained a new Astral Dress that has Nia's Astral Dress superimposed on her own. Like Nia, Kurumi has also acquired the ability to use<Rasiel> to search for information. Kurumi would use her powers to extensively investigate the existence of the magic that gave rise to the Spirits, the esoteric arts maintained in tradition long before the creation of the Realizer, and the numerous magical artifacts that were once created by mages. [10] During the pitched battle, Kurumi only fought until she exhausted the ability to use Rasiel and its corresponding Astral Dress, demonstrating that she can also use this Angel for combat.

magician

One of Kurumi's clones became a mage by stealing a CR-Unit from a DEM mage and having the other clones implant a Realizer in her brain. She serves as the antagonist of Encore 8.

Much later, after losing her spiritual powers, the original Kurumi is deemed capable of using a wireless Realizer device to create a Territory. Like the other Spirits, her compatibility stems from how the study of Spirits led to the creation of the Realizer. Therefore, she comes equipped with one of the blades<Ygdd Folium> which he can manually control as a shield to protect Shido during the confrontation against<Beast> .

<Atlach-Nacha> (Atoranāto): A black and white CR-Unit with a skirt reminiscent of spider legs. She uses it to infiltrate Shido's and the Spirits' dreams in an attempt to disturb them and trigger a Reiryoku backflow. It can create laser silk resembling spiderwebs to subdue the Spirits.
