The Huntresses of Artemis are a group of immortal female hunters under the patronage of the goddess of hunting, Artemis.

Artemis's Hunters possess unique abilities and hunting skills. They are also immortal and eternally young until they break their vow to renounce all romantic relationships. The Hunters travel with Artemis and hunt animals and monsters. They are her handmaidens, companions, and sisters-in-arms. Each Hunter must also renounce male company and devote herself entirely to hunting. Because of this, many of the girls in the group hate and despise men.

If a huntress does fall in love, Artemis strips her of her immortality and expels her from the team, or may even turn her into an animal or even kill her. Although huntresses are immortal, they can die in battle. They are often confused with the Amazons.

The three demigods and Zoe reach the Garden of the Hesperides, where Zoe distracts the dragon Ladon so that the rest of the quest can pass by, but ends up with the dragon biting her in the side.

Zoe's wound, inflicted by Ladon, proved fatal, and nothing could save her from the poison. While defending Percy, she was struck by her father, Atlas. When Artemis tried to help her, she grabbed her wrist and asked only, "Have I served you well?" Before she died, Zoe claimed to see the stars again, and she remained frozen, her eyes fixed on the night sky.
Artemis placed her palm over Zoe's lips and uttered a few lines of ancient Greek. The goddess caught a curl of silver smoke that escaped her lips, and Zoe's body melted into shimmering light. Artemis rose, breathed on her palm, uttered a prayer, and the silver dust rose to the heavens and vanished. The stars in the sky shone brighter and formed a new pattern—a radiant constellation resembling a maiden's figure—a girl with a bow, flying through the heavens.

Her appearance strongly resembled her father, which immediately alerted Percy. She was tall and graceful, her skin coppery and slightly silver in the moonlight, her eyes dark and shadowy. Unlike the other Hunters, her dark hair was held back with a silver crown, making her look like a Persian princess.

Zoe is arrogant and cocky. Being a huntress, she hates all men. She has an open hatred of male heroes due to Hercules' betrayal, but eventually comes to respect Percy during his quest for Artemis. She has leadership qualities and can sometimes speak in ancient words and with an ancient accent.

One might assume that her cold and unapproachable mask is merely a consequence of Hercules' betrayal. She's not generous with her feelings and emotions.

While hunting the Manticore, the Hunters encountered Percy Jackson, Grover, Thalia Grace, Nico, and Bianca di Angelo. Artemis decides to find and destroy the monster that could destroy Olympus, and the Hunters are asked to travel to Camp Half-Blood, a destination they don't particularly want, and to do so on Apollo's chariot, but they cannot disobey their mistress.
The next day, a war game of Capture the Flag was held, where Zoya carried the enemy flag across the river, and the Huntresses won for the fifty-sixth time in a row. After the game, the Oracle suddenly appeared, having come of its own accord, which was very, very strange. Zoya received a prophecy from the Oracle.

Zoe decides to set out on the quest, despite being almost certain that the line "one will die at the hands of a father" refers to her and Atlas. She decides to take two Hunters with her—Phoebe and Bianca. But Phoebe unexpectedly falls ill due to a "gift" from the Stoll brothers. Zoe sets out on the quest without her, unaware that an invisible Percy is following them. They are attacked by the Nemean Lion.

Zoe was one of the Hesperides and lived with them in a garden of golden apples, guarded by the dragon Ladon, on Mount Othrys, where their father Atlas held the sky on his mighty shoulders. One day, she met Heracles, who was about to perform his twelfth labor on the orders of Eurystheus. She fell in love with the hero and agreed to help him. She gave him the sword Anaklusmos, with which he stole the apples. But the Hesperides learned of Zoe's aid and banished her from the garden, without Heracles even mentioning her name. Furious at the male heroes, Zoe joined Artemis's retinue and became the chief Huntress.
