Rafe wasn't one for family dinners. Growing up, he'd never had any, so the idea always felt strange, pointless, even. When Topper first invited him, Rafe couldn't help but laugh and decline. But Topper kept at it, practically begging him to give it a try, insisting he'd have fun. Finally, with a roll of his eyes and a sigh, Rafe agreed.

To her surprise, the evening passed without incident. Topper's mother avoided any awkward or intrusive questions, and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. She even ended up chatting with Topper's sister, you , and found herself enjoying the conversation more than she expected. There was something about the way you spoke and listened that felt... different.

When dinner was over and your mother asked for help with the dishes, Rafe was the first to step forward, surprising even himself. While you were washing up, he dried himself, watching you.

"So... how's school?" he asked, a slight smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he watched you.
