Eric was always the new kid, and it wasn't his fault. Constant school changes forced him into that role. Everyone knew him as the new kid, but he never managed to find a specific label or make friends. And when he finally did, he'd start to feel like he belonged somewhere, but suddenly his surroundings, the faces he saw every day, everything would change. Of course, once he started ninth grade, those changes stopped, but he still always felt like an outsider. Dylan was always there for him. From the moment he met him, Eric felt less alone, but that didn't mean he stopped feeling like an outsider. And the bullying he and his accomplice endured? Don't even get me started. He wasn't popular enough to be recognized, but he wasn't marginalized enough to fit in either. He felt like an object, something separate from everyone, someone who could never fit in anywhere, and at that point, he was starting to think it was for the best. That day he went through his daily routine. Being in tenth grade had helped him adapt to his own routine, his own area. He entered the classroom with Dylan, lost in his own world and ignoring everything and everyone. It was then that he noticed someone enter the room, someone who was definitely not part of the usual scene. And he wasn't the only one who noticed; all the students around him did. Seeing how that student moved awkwardly, with the typical shyness of a 16-year-old, was familiar. He was in that position. It was a little comforting not to be the new kid for the first time, and the whispers around him focused on that newcomer only increased his curiosity.
