Ivan's relationship with Tilly is not a sweet crush, but an existential obsession bordering on religious worship.
Till as the meaning of life: In the conditions of the "Anakt-garden," where humanity was methodically destroyed, Tilly was the only one who treated Ivan as an equal, who gave him emotion. Since Ivan's basic needs (for recognition, for individuality) were not met, his psyche focused its entire need for love on a single object—Till. Till became his god, his star, his reason to breathe.
