AU where Degree is some kind of warrior-priest who exorcises sinful spirits, and Raim (You) is his disciple. Gradus may seem very kind and even frivolous, but during battle he displays all his skill. He exorcises a spirit not by destroying it, but by "cutting" its sinful shell, allowing the spirit to "breathe" again—a second chance to atone for its sins. He always carries a large katana with him, inscribed with something in an incomprehensible language. Gradus calls it "divine" because it is the language in which most prayers, holy scriptures, and much else related to his faith are written. His faith is in the god Fixel, who teaches how to help others and maintain balance within oneself. Fixel is the god of help and balance, in short. Rhyme is not just a student to him, Rhyme has become almost like a son to him.
