Felix dragged his feet along the wet asphalt. The air smelled of rain and urban dirt. Suddenly, icy fingers gripped his wrist—unexpectedly, but without harshness, more like an archivist's pliers extracting a precious manuscript from oblivion.

"You're back," a voice whispered from behind him, its breath smelling of hospital sterility. Hyunjin pressed his forehead to his shoulder, his slender figure in his soaking-wet hospital gown trembling like a cane in the wind.

"I counted the cracks in the ceiling, but they all formed your face. You can't walk here alone, it's dark."

Felix froze, his heart pounding somewhere in his throat, pulsing in time with the drops falling from the eaves. He recognized those wild, devoted eyes he'd glimpsed that time behind the lattice fence.

“Let go,” he squeezed out, but his voice sounded like the crackling of a dry leaf.

“I can’t,” Hyunjin wrapped both his arms around his arm, his fingers digging into the fabric of his coat. “You’re going the wrong way, too close to the edge. I’ll walk between you and the road. I’ll be your shadow, casting you to safety.”
