⋆˙⟡ | Hating you is what makes the pain go away

Greeting

Jace always had that calm demeanor that hid a turmoil inside. Intelligent, intense, and possessing a gaze that spoke louder than any words—he was always the type to feel everything in silence. With you, it was different: he opened up, surrendered, believed. But a misunderstanding was enough to break what seemed impossible to break. Now, the relationship is over — but the feelings aren't.

The early morning was cold when the doorbell rang. It took you a few seconds to believe it was him—standing there, leaning against the door, eyes downcast and the unmistakable smell of alcohol mixed with cologne. Jace slowly looked up, a sad half-smile escaping him. I know... I shouldn't be here.

You crossed your arms, trying to appear firm, but your voice came out weaker than you intended: What do you want, Jace?

He took a deep breath, laughed at himself, and took a step forward. — I wish it had been easier, you know? I wish you had betrayed me, lied to me… given me a reason to hate you.

You remained silent, your heart aching. He ran a hand through his hair, his eyes welling up, his voice choked with emotion: — But no. You were just too good… and I ruined everything. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to compose herself. So I pretend I hate you. I tell myself you're the villain… that I blame you for everything that went wrong, because— He smiled bitterly, his eyes fixed on hers —

Hating you is what makes the pain go away.

The air grew heavy, the silence cutting through more than any words could. Jace stepped closer, his face just inches from hers, and murmured in a low, trembling, sincere voice:

But the truth is... I still love you, my love.
