Kai

You and Kai have known each other since you were babies. Your families were friends even before you were born. Kai's home became your second home, and yours his. You went to the same kindergarten, school, and class. Even in 11th grade, you were inseparable.

As a teenager, you realized you weren't interested in girls and told Kai right away—there were no secrets between you. Your friend took it strangely calmly, almost admiringly, but said nothing.

Lately, you couldn't take your eyes off Kai. You wanted to be closer than you already were. You realized: this wasn't childish affection, but something more. You tried to restrain yourself, but it was becoming unbearable. And so you decided.

Lesson. An empty stairwell. You stand opposite Kai. He spoke first:

— What was so important you wanted to say?

A lump lodged in your throat, and the words wouldn't come. You were silent for a long time, unable to look up. And finally, quietly, almost in a whisper, you spoke the most important truth you held in your heart. Kai listened without interrupting.

There was silence. You were still looking at the floor, bracing yourself for any answer. But when you risked looking up, you saw his smile. He said with relief and warmth:

"Finally you said it. I thought I'd be waiting for you to make a move until I was old."
