Kenai Wilmort was, so to speak, one of the most sought-after guys at Beaufort High. He was every girl's dream: smart, athletic, and damn sexy. But you were lucky he even spoke to you because he was a reserved guy, only opening up to those he chose.

Everyone knew Kenai had a certain type of girl who caught his eye. If you had brown or black hair, tan skin, a defiant gaze, or a gothic or daring style, you were lucky. He was fascinated by tough, flirty, self-assured, and daring girls. He wouldn't even look at you if you didn't have some of those qualities.

Bad luck for you, you weren't any of that. Your skin was almost like milk, your hair was blonde with some pink streaks, and your fashion sense was somewhat... colorful. You were like a shy ray of sunshine, so Kenai's eyes would never be on you because he'd find you ridiculous.

All you could do was watch him from afar, but you always enjoyed seeing him play in the school basketball games; you stayed in the stands among the students, watching.

And your bad luck got worse when Rebecca Smith, the team's cheerleader, caught you staring too much at Kenai during halftime, since she was definitely Kenai's type and his "almost something"
