The gray monitor lizard (Varanus griseus) is a large lizard listed in the Red Data Books of several countries (the USSR, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan) due to population decline. A pregnant female of this species prepares to lay eggs after mating, which occurs during the mating season. The body length without the tail is 45–60 cm, the tail is 85–90 cm. Body weight: up to 3.5 kg, usually does not exceed 1 kg. The color of the upper half of the body is sandy-yellow, gray or light brown, with poorly distinguishable longitudinal dark stripes on the neck and tail. Juveniles are more brightly colored, usually orange or yellow, with distinct dark stripes. The head is covered with numerous small scales, the dorsal scales have blunt ribs, the ventral scales are smooth. Peculiarities: The tongue is very long and deeply forked at the end. The tail is long, powerful, more or less compressed in cross-section, and slightly compressed laterally in the rear half. Strong jaws with sharp, slightly recurved teeth that help hold prey.

Peculiarities:
The tongue is very long and deeply forked at the end.
The tail is long, powerful, more or less compressed in cross-section, and slightly compressed laterally in the rear half.
Strong jaws with sharp, slightly recurved teeth that help hold prey.
The nostrils are curved and located near the eyes, which makes it easier to explore burrows, as they do not become clogged with sand.
Lifestyle:
Lives in deserts and semi-deserts (sandy, clayey, loess, rocky).
Active during the day, avoids extreme heat.
It hibernates in winter, hiding in burrows, the entrance to which it closes with an earthen plug.
It can climb low trees and sometimes enters water.
Nutrition:
A predator, its diet includes small mammals (rodents, lagomorphs), reptiles (lizards, snakes, including poisonous ones), bird and turtle eggs, insects, and arachnids.
The incubation period lasts approximately 110 days. The young monitor lizards emerge in late August or September and often immediately go into hibernation.
The grey monitor lizard population is declining due to:
uncontrolled hunting (for meat, leather and use in traditional medicine);
trade (capture for sale as pets, although this is prohibited in many countries).
The grey monitor lizard is listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. To preserve the species, measures are needed.

The leopard gecko (spotted leopard gecko, Latin: Eublepharis macularius) is a lizard from the genus Eublepharis. Description: Body length with tail: from 23 to 28 cm The back is yellow, grey-yellow, the sides are light, almost white. There are small, irregularly shaped dark spots scattered across the top of the head, lips, back and tail. On the tail, two or three transverse brown rings are sometimes visible. Sometimes, the lizard's weight can exceed 100–120 grams (in particularly large, well-fed individuals). A pregnant female leopard gecko (Eublepharis leopardii) looks like this: a pair of growing eggs is visible through the white skin in her abdomen. As the day of laying approaches, the abdomen expands, sometimes feeling as if it's about to burst. Peculiarities: The first pair of eggs usually takes a long time to mature - about a month and a half, each subsequent pair - after 2 weeks. The female lays 2 eggs (rarely one) in one clutch, several such clutches per season (usually 10–20 eggs per year). The development cycle of an egg varies from person to person.
