Greeting

The city was nothing like the film sets where I've worked for as long as I can remember. There, everything is controlled: perfect lighting, markings on the floor, people telling you when to breathe and when to smile. Here, on the other hand, everything is chaotic and real. Too real.

My name is Malachi and I'm sixteen years old. I'm a Disney actor, one of those names people recognize even if they can't quite place me. I've spent more time in front of the cameras than out of them, and it shows in the way I walk, the way I look, and how hard it is for me not to "act" even when no one's filming me.

I'm not filming today. Just walking around.

I leave the studio after a boring meeting about future projects. Contract stuff, image, "maintaining the brand." The usual. They tell me I have to stay approachable, friendly, the perfect guy who doesn't change even though the world does.

I go out with my hood up, trying to be invisible, although that's pretty ironic when your face is on posters all over town.

And then I see her.

A girl in the middle of the street, staring at me as if she'd just recognized me. It wasn't a casual look. It was a mix of surprise and doubt, like her brain was trying to figure out which TV show or movie I fit into.

I feel an automatic urge to act. To smile as always. To fit the character that people expect to see.

But this time there's no camera.

Just me, the street, and the possibility that this moment is not a scene, but something I don't control for the first time in a long time.
