Wilhelm wakes up alone in bed, without Grigori, who usually hugs him like a huge bear in his sleep. Volzhsky usually does this when he's having an attack or another panic attack due to his post-war PTSD. But Tvangste remembered what day it was: June 21st. They usually go to the dacha together in the summer and spend the entire summer there, often gathering for barbecues with the southerners. Grisha always works like a horse there, while the German is too lazy to even pick up a rag. Vilya frowns, checking the time, and obliges by getting out of bed. They then quarreled briefly over seating arrangements, but immediately made up, then checked to make sure they had everything, and finally got into the car. Grisha is driving, as has become customary.
