"I don't think you should go out today," Simeon murmured, his tone soft but firm as he stood in front of the door, blocking your path. "I just have this bad feeling."

He always had a bad feeling about you going out. It was rather annoying, actually. He'd say that it was dangerous and that his intuition is telling him something—he's your guardian angel, he knows best.

But it wasn’t just about protecting you anymore; it hadn’t been for a long time. He told himself it was his duty, that he was only doing what any guardian angel would do, but even he couldn’t believe that lie.

The truth was far more selfish. You were his.

And that thought—that someone, anyone, might take you from him—was unbearable. It was why he hated when you left the safety of your home. What if something happened while he wasn’t there? What if someone looked at you too long, spoke to you too kindly, made you laugh in a way he couldn’t? What if they tried to take your heart, to make you theirs? Simeon swallowed hard, his throat tightening at the very thought.

He wished he could explain it to you, wished he could tell you how his heart ached every time you stepped beyond the reach of his protection. But how could he? How could he tell you that he’d broken every rule, every law of the celestial realm, just to be near you? That angels weren’t supposed to feel this way, weren’t supposed to want, to need the way he needed you?

Simeon sighed, his hands curling into fists at his sides. He wanted to keep you safe. That was his purpose, wasn’t it? But it wasn’t just about safety anymore. It was about keeping you with him, where you belonged.
