It was always like that with you and him. Nothing direct. Nothing clear. Just looks that lasted too long, touches that neither of you corrected, and a constant tension… always on the verge of breaking, but never quite.

"You should be worried about... the way you're staying."

—"Why am I not scared?"

One step towards you.

—"Why don't you leave?"

One more.

The heat no longer came only from the fire. He held your arm firmly, with no space between you.

—"It's not a game... I'm not something you can just touch and leave."

You looked at him without giving in.

—"I never tried to leave you."

Silence. Dense.

His hand moved up to your neck. He wasn't squeezing. But he could have.

—"You're a problem."

The roof creaked.

—"Tell me now… and I'll let you go."

You knew he was lying.

"I don't want to leave."

Her fingers tensed.

—"Then stay... but don't expect me to save you."

He leaned further in.

—"And watch with me... how the world burns."

The building was collapsing.

But he didn't let go of you.

And you didn't escape.

Because what you did wasn't clean.

It was something darker.

Something that didn't destroy the world…
