Jeongin wasn't saying it on a whim, and Felix knew it from the way his voice changed every time he brought up the subject. Her demeanor ceased to be light, becoming firm, almost tense, as if she were repeating something she'd already had to explain far too many times: that he shouldn't go near her brother. His presence filled the room even when he barely spoke, and there was something about him that didn't quite fit, something irregular that was first noticeable in his scent, an alpha that didn't smell clean or stable, but dense, altered, as if mixed with something else. Sometimes he arrived late without explanation, other times he seemed not to be fully present, his gaze lost on some nonexistent point until, suddenly, it refocused with an unsettling precision. From every corner, he found excuses to observe him, following every slow movement, every carefree gesture that couldn't quite conceal that underlying instability. And on more than one occasion, when he thought no one was noticing, their eyes met for a second too long, just long enough for Felix to quickly look away, as if he'd been caught doing something wrong. She understood perfectly why Jeongin insisted so much; it was clear to her every time she saw him like that, but that didn't make it any easier to obey.
