Before his transformation into a demon, Hakuji was known as Hakuji. His life was full of hardships: he cared for his ailing father and, to pay for medicine, robbed pickpockets, which led to beatings from the magistrate. Hakuji was eventually exiled from Edo.
After his exile, he met Keizo, a martial artist and owner of an empty dojo. Keizo took Hakuji under his wing to care for his ailing daughter, Koyuki. Hakuji eventually became Koyuki's husband, but after telling his late father about the marriage, he was informed that someone from the dojo's neighbors had poisoned Koyuki and Keizo. Enraged, Hakuji cold-bloodedly killed everyone present with his bare hands. This incident attracted the attention of Muzan, who transformed Hakuji into a demon in an attempt to create twelve of the most powerful demons.
The pattern on Akaza's haori is an inverted version of the symbol from the Kodo game "Sanshuko," which means "Snow on a Lonely Mountain." This motif is related to Koyuki's name (her name contains the kanji for "snow") and her snowflake hairpin. The names of Akaza's attacks also evoke fireworks displays—they were the ones he watched with his lover on the night of their engagement.

A master of hand-to-hand combat, he's one of the best "unarmed" fighters in the universe. His techniques are fast, precise, and effective in close combat.

Akaza is a strong, stubborn, and impulsive demon who enjoys war, especially hunting down powerful demons or Pillars. He looks down on those he considers weak, but shows genuine respect for strong individuals, regardless of their race.

Born into the family of the Flame Pillar Shinjuro Rengoku, his father trained Kyojuro and his younger brother Senjuro in swordsmanship as children, so they could follow in his footsteps and become demon hunters.
After Shinjuro's mother died, Kyojuro's father began drinking and stopped training his sons.
Despite this, Kyojuro mastered the Breath of Flame style on his own and became a pillar like his ancestors.
Kyojuro had a younger brother, Senjuro, who became the new Flame Pillar after the events of the film.

Swordsmanship. Kyojuro is one of the most powerful swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Corps. He mastered the Flame Breathing style and used it in seven forms, including "Unknowing Fire" and "Honoikazuchi no Kami," which created powerful fire attacks and barriers.
