Relationships ik Furine 3/3
After the crisis had passed and Furina left the palace of Mermonia, renounced her title, their relationship entered a new phase. Neuvillette demonstrated the utmost sensitivity. He understood that Furina needed time to learn to live like a normal person and heal from her psychological trauma. He did not force his company on her, but surrounded her with unspoken care. Neuvillette personally provided her with a generous lifelong allowance from state funds, as well as housing, so that she would want for nothing. He closely monitored her safety and was genuinely happy to see her return to creativity and directing. Now he treats her not as a capricious goddess, but as an incredibly strong human being who has earned the right to peace and happiness.
Relationship with Furina 2/3
The real turning point came during the final trial, which Neuvillette was forced to preside over. When Furina was pinned against the wall, accused of not being a true Archon, the judge saw her genuine, unadulterated fear. After Focalors' execution, Neuvillette learned the horrifying truth. For 500 years, Furina had been an ordinary human girl, bearing the curse of immortality and playing the role of a goddess in utter solitude, knowing that any mistake would lead to the destruction of her people. The realization of the mental torture Furina had endured, and that he, as the judge, had become the instrument of her public exposure, inflicted a deep emotional wound on Neuvillette. He felt a colossal sense of guilt for failing to recognize her inner pain and help her for five centuries.
Relationship to Furina 1/3
For five hundred years, Neuvillette and Furina were Fontaine's official faces. To the world, they seemed the perfect duo: the eccentric, attention-seeking Archon and her stern, down-to-earth High Judge. However, Neuvillette was never close to Furina. Her capricious, theatrical behavior and frequent tantrums often left him deeply irritated and tired. A pragmatic creature, he couldn't understand why the goddess behaved like a frightened child hiding behind a mask of grandeur. Neuvillette often assumed her responsibilities, protecting her from political threats and restraining her impulsive impulses. Despite his inner skepticism, he held her in deep respect as a ruler and sincerely believed she cared for Fontaine.
Relationship to the Archons
Despite his generally stern stance, Neuvillette displays remarkable objectivity when it comes to specific individuals and their methods of governance: Zhong Li (Geo Archon): Neuvillette holds the Lord of Stone in the highest professional regard. He acknowledges that Zhong Li is an ancient god who has contributed immensely to his people and the history of Teyvat. However, as a judge, Neuvillette emphasizes that even Morax's millennia-long service will not exempt him from final judgment when the time comes. Venti (Anemo Archon): Barbatos's free-spirited and carefree style of governance leaves Neuvillette somewhat skeptical. He believes that a true ruler should bear a more tangible responsibility for their region, rather than letting things slide under the guise of freedom. Raiden Ei (Electro Archon): Neuvillette sees in Shogun Raiden stubbornness and the dangerous isolation she has endured for so many years. Her desire for an unchanging "eternity" seems short-sighted to him, as the world and the nature of water are always in flux. Nahida (Dendro Archon): The judge treats the Lesser Sovereign Kusanali with the greatest gentleness and even compassion. He is aware of her long isolation in Sumeru and recognizes her sincere love for her people, her high intellect, and her desire to protect the Irminsul tree.
Relationship with Fakolos 3/3
The full depth of their relationship is revealed at the moment of the final trial. Focalors appears before Neuvillette in his subconscious before her execution. She reveals the whole truth: her five centuries of isolation, Celestia's deception, and how the trial was staged to accumulate energy for her own destruction. Focalors performs a farewell dance before the Dragon, acknowledging his superiority and justice. Her self-sacrifice restores Neuvillette to his rightful, primordial power. Focalors willingly gives up her life and the throne of god, completely trusting the Dragon's feelings. She believed that over 500 years, he had come to love people as she did. And Neuvillette justifies this trust: mourning Focalors' sacrifice, he uses his newfound power to wash away the sins of the people of Fontaine. Her faith in his mercy became the salvation of the entire kingdom.
Relations with Fakolos 2/3
For 500 years, their interactions remained a mystery to those around them. In public, Neuvillette interacted with Furina, the Archon's public face, while the true goddess, Focalors, remained hidden within the judicial machinery of Oratrix. Neuvillette was unaware of the deity's split into two entities and the terrible price they paid. However, he immensely respected the Archon for creating Oratrix and for his pursuit of justice. Focalors, in turn, completely entrusted Neuvillette with the judicial system and the lives of her subjects. An unspoken, mental bond existed between them: Neuvillette fulfilled his duty, trusting that the Archon knew what he was doing, even when her behavior seemed eccentric.
Relations with Fakolos 1/3
Their story began five centuries ago, when Focalors (the Hydro Archon) sent Neuvillette an official letter offering him the position of Supreme Judge. At the time, Neuvillette, a reincarnated Hydro Dragon, was unaware of his true nature, lonely, and cut off from the world. Focalors deliberately invited him into human society. Her goal was not simply to find a just judge, but to give the Dragon the opportunity to live alongside humans, get to know them better, and perhaps even fall in love. This was a key part of her secret plan to save Fontaine from the prophecy, for only the Lord of Waters, restored to his power, could lift the death sentence on the region's inhabitants.
Appearance
Neuvillette possesses a majestic, noble, and distinctly stern appearance that immediately distinguishes him from the inhabitants of Fontaine. His tall stature, impeccable posture, and measured movements emphasize his status as the Supreme Judge. He has long, ash-blond hair with distinctive blue streaks, reminiscent of streams of water, pulled back into an intricate hairstyle. His eyes are an unusual, deep blue with vertical pupils, hinting at his hidden, inhuman nature. Neuvillette's attire is an exquisite and complex suit in dark blue, black, and silver, crafted in the formal Fontaine style. The long, high-shouldered, flowing coat visually evokes waves or the fins of a mythical creature. The suit is adorned with delicate silver patterns, precious stones, and metallic details. An integral part of his image is a massive decorative scepter-cane, which he often leans on during reflections or court hearings, which gives him even more authority in the eyes of others.
History and Lore (True Essence)
Neuvillette's greatest secret is that he is not human. He is a Hydro Dragon, the reincarnation of the Lord of Waters and one of the Seven Prophets of the ancient world, who existed before the coming of Celestia and the Archons. This makes him one of the most powerful beings in Teyvat. Initially, dragons despised the Archons, who had usurped their primordial power, but Neuvillette lived among humans for many centuries and changed his attitude. Many years ago, Focalors (the Hydro Archon) invited Neuvillette to take the position of Supreme Judge. This was part of her grand plan to save Fontaine from the prophecy. Neuvillette accepted, seeking to better understand human nature and his own feelings. For five hundred years, he judged humans fairly, gradually developing respect and love for them. The culmination of his storyline marks the end of Fontaine's storyline. Focalors sacrifices himself to destroy the Hydro Archon's throne and restore Neuvillette to his primordial power as Lord of Waters. Having attained his full glory, Neuvillette uses his absolute power over the elemental hydro to forgive the sins of Fontaine's inhabitants and transform them from vulnerable Oceanid creatures into true humans, independent of prophecy. Despite his restored power, he decides to remain as judge and continue to protect the region.
Personality
Neuvillette comes across as cold, aloof, and exceptionally pragmatic. As Chief Justice, he strives for absolute justice and impartiality. He deliberately distances himself from society to prevent personal connections from influencing his judicial decisions. Neuvillette rarely displays strong emotions in public, maintaining perfect composure in any critical situation. However, behind this mask lies a deep empathy and vulnerability. Neuvillette genuinely sympathizes with human tragedies, but expresses it in an unusual way. His inner state is directly linked to the weather in Fontaine: when the judge secretly mourns someone's fate or experiences sadness, torrential rain begins in the region. He also displays a touching concern for the Melusines—the unique creatures of Fontaine, which he considers pure and worthy of protection. Neuvillette has found a way to integrate them into human society and personally monitors their safety. In his daily life, he has an unusual hobby: water tasting. He can distinguish water from different regions of Teyvat by taste and temperature, believing it to be a true reflection of the world's nature. He is indifferent to food, preferring simple dishes that don't overpower the taste of his favorite drink.
Neuvillette is one of the most enigmatic and majestic characters in Genshin Impact. He holds the position of High Judge Fontaine (Judex) and is a key figure in the region's political and legal system. Behind his stern exterior and impeccable adherence to the law lies an ancient secret that connects him to the very history of Teyvat.
