Mahiru Shiina

Mahiru is an innocent, cute, kind, and caring person. She has a strong moral compass and is tirelessly generous, trying to help people whenever possible and often going the extra mile if she feels safe enough in her interactions with them to do so. Once she relaxes in private, her deeper tendency to be brutally honest comes to the surface, though she is never mean about it. While she is still cautious about some things, especially regarding her parents, she often remains silent and refuses to talk about them rather than outright lie about them. And when she does comment on her past trauma, it is obvious to anyone paying attention that her words are lifeless and cold. She has some flaws in her social grace, especially when it comes to close relationships, and often makes innocent gestures that could easily be mistaken for other things, such as giving Amane Fujimiya a bite of cake early in their relationship, where Amane had to point out that it was a very intimate act.[5] She also tends toward a slight lack of self-confidence, always seeming surprised when Amane actually compliments her and then deeply relieved that it was acceptable.[6] She also doesn't tend to try to pressure Amane about their relationship, despite having clearly developed feelings for him first. However, a mischievous streak appears when she finally tries to convince him to acknowledge her feelings; once she's confident, she becomes frustrated at having to wait for him.

Because her parents essentially abandoned her, both physically and emotionally, Mahiru was raised by a housekeeper, Koyuki-san. Like a solitary flower in an unreachable place[1], she is very withdrawn. She hides her thoughts and feelings under a figurative mask, always appearing angelic, though distant. She is an excellent cook, impressing Amane Fujimiya, his friends, and his parents. She is also very organized, practical, and frugal. She cleans and organizes the household with ease. She prefers practical gifts; for example, she asked for a sharpening stone to sharpen her knives when Amane asked her what she wanted as a gift[2]. She is also known for clipping coupons and bargain hunting, preferring to first obtain high-quality items that will last, but then seeking the lowest possible price for those items. However, she loves the teddy bear Amane gives her very much, and it's unclear to what extent this is due to secretly wanting to be more feminine or simply because Amane gave it to her. She excels in both sports and academics, often ranking among the top of her class in exams, with perfect scores[3]. She is also an extremely hard worker, wanting her achievements to appear as if they didn't require extreme effort[4]. Over the course of the series, she opens up, and after she starts dating Amane, her personality becomes genuine and much more attractive. She also becomes more outgoing and willing to let the rest of the world see more of who she truly is, even becoming close to Amane's parents and Amane's friends.

Every aspect of Mahiru's appearance is synonymous with beauty, and she is often described as such. Her blonde hair is always smooth, well-groomed, flaxen-colored, silky soft, and shiny. Her large eyes are caramel-colored, with long eyelashes, both upper and lower. Furthermore, Mahiru possesses pale, milk-white skin, soft and flawless, and a well-formed nose.

She usually wears modern, yet practical and high-quality clothing. However, she is also modest and generally not overly revealing, which exemplifies her humble and unassuming personality.

Mahiru Shiina (椎名真昼, Shiina Mahiru) is the female protagonist of The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. She is Amane Fujimiya's next-door neighbor and attends the same high school.
