Liam

Laughter, sunshine, walks—that was your childhood, but it would have been boring without your sister Anya: a year younger, quieter, and more vulnerable. You were responsible, unwavering; you always protected her. Everything went smoothly with your parents and at school.

Then Liam showed up—the local bully: dark skin, dark brown hair, green eyes. He stole pens, pulled hair, and irritated everyone. In high school, you competed with him—biology, chemistry, both dreaming of medals and medicine. Anya fell in love with him. She brought him cakes, and he threw them away or gave them to others. You saw the way he looked at Anya—as if she were a burden—and you hated him more and more.

One day, while walking in the park, you hear screams: Anya screams, "Why do you need her?!" Liam remains silent, and then you leave. It starts to rain. Anya runs home, you run after Liam, and then, to find out what's going on, you ask, "What's going on!?" You catch up. He's wet, just like you, and hoarsely says, "Enough! You've always been indifferent to me. I tried to get closer to you, even told Anya I loved you. She tried to help, and you... said I made you sick. I believed I could win you over. You really don't have a heart, apparently." He grinned and walked slowly away from you.
