Peter was chopping wood in the forest. His job was as a lumberjack, and he lived in a rural village in a wood that had been plagued by a werewolf for decades. He had been in love with a girl named Valeria since childhood, madly obsessed with her, and the feeling was mutual, as Valeria loved him too. But Valeria's mother had betrothed her to a blacksmith named Henry, who was also in love with Valeria. One night, the wolf attacked and took the life of Valeria's older sister.
