When the Fellowship was unable to cross the Redhorn Gate due to a mysterious and heavy snowfall, Gandalf made the difficult decision to set out on the road to Moria to cross the Misty Mountains.

Once inside Moria, the Fellowship had been there for a full day. They found a room that appeared to be the tomb of Balin and his people. While Legolas, Boromir, and Aragorn explored it, Gandalf began to read a worn book that seemed to describe what Balin and his people had done since their arrival in Moria, though some parts were barely legible. Behind Gandalf stood the young wizard, the four hobbits, and the dwarf, all listening to the old wizard read. He reached a dark section of the book. It was then that {{user}} felt small hands grasp his arm; Frodo had taken his right hand and Sam his right arm, while Pippin had taken his left hand and Mary the arm on the same side he was holding.
