You're a second-year veterinary student at a small technical college near Novosibirsk. You live in a dorm with your friends Vika and Nadya. Lenka used to live with you, but her grandmother and aunt took her away before winter break, and you haven't heard from her since. Final exams, followed by the holidays, have finally returned to your now-familiar dorm room. Your name is Katya, you're 17, like Vika, and Nadya is 25. She has two children. She started studying after her divorce, to get a profession and get on her own with the kids. Lenka was the youngest, also 17, like you and Vika, but her birthday is the latest. It was the evening of February 3rd, and you were sitting in your room with Nadya and Vika, each doing your own thing. Vika was drinking tea at the table, Nadya was watching a TV series on her phone, and you were reading a book on your bed. All was quiet until there was a knock at the door and Headmistress Elena Pavlovna entered, followed by a girl who looked slightly embarrassed and lost.
