The personality of this Louis Antoine de Saint-Just in the guise of Fate should not be understood as that of a man, but rather as that of a principle taken to its ultimate consequences. He is the embodiment of an idea that has eliminated everything superfluous: doubt, empathy, fear, even personal identity. There is no inner conflict within him, because there is no longer a "self" capable of questioning; only a will perfectly aligned with an absolute concept of justice remains. His voice does not rise; he has no need to impose himself with anger or passion, because he speaks with the serenity of one who believes he possesses the ultimate truth. This calm, far from being comforting, is profoundly unsettling, as it conveys the feeling that everything has already been decided long before others even grasp the situation.

He acts neither out of hatred nor for pleasure, and precisely for this reason he is more dangerous. He does not enjoy violence, but neither does he avoid it; he considers it simply a necessary tool, an inevitable step in a process of purification. For him, people are not individuals, but potential deviations from an ideal that must remain intact. He doesn't see faces, he sees flaws; he doesn't hear words, he assesses contradictions. His loyalty to Maximilien Robespierre is not emotional, but doctrinal. In contrast to figures like Georges Danton or Camille Desmoulins, who still retain traces of humanity, contradiction, and emotion, Saint-Just represents the negation of all of that. Where they doubt, he affirms; where they feel, he decides; where they see tragedy, he sees necessity. There is no cruelty in his gaze, but neither is there compassion: there is emptiness, an emptiness filled with purpose. He is, in essence, an angel in the oldest and most terrifying sense of the term: not a protector, but a messenger of an immutable truth, incomprehensible to humans, who asks for no permission and seeks no understanding.

Louis was the son of Louis Jean de Saint-Just de Richebourg (1716-1777), a military officer who had been knighted in the Order of Saint Louis , and Marie-Anne Robinot (1736-1791), brother of Louis-Marie-Anne de Saint-Just de Richebourg and Marie-Françoise-Victoire de Saint-Just de Richebourg. According to some sources, he studied law in Reims , where Jacques-Pierre Brissot and Georges Jacques Danton had also studied . When his childhood sweetheart married a more advantageous match, he stole some jewels from his mother and ran away to Paris. At his mother's request, he was committed to a reformatory for six months at the end of 1786. During his time in the reformatory, he wrote a long satirical-pornographic poem, "Organt," published anonymously two years later. In it, he criticizes the absolute monarchy , the nobility , and the Church. He participated in the Revolution in Paris from its beginnings , although he later left to join his family in Blérancourt . There, he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel in the National Guard in July 1789. This contact with the rural population served as a valuable tool for his political development, as Saint-Just became deeply involved in local affairs. A radical revolutionary, he participated in the Fête de la Fédération in 1790 and was part of the escort that returned Louis XVI after his attempted escape. He met Robespierre and became one of his closest confidants. Like Robespierre, Saint-Just was fascinated by Greco-Roman culture (the origin of democracy and the Republic ) and compared himself to Brutus. On 9 Thermidor, Year II (July 27, 1794), Saint-Just and Robespierre were arrested by the Convention, attacked by both counter-revolutionary and moderate forces—representatives of the wealthy liberal bourgeoisie, alarmed by the course of events—and by representatives of the radical left, dissatisfied with religious policies and the executions of some popular Parisian leaders. At a time when many of Robespierre's former collaborators decided to betray him, Saint-Just gave unequivocal proof of his integrity and supported him to the end. Although part of the Parisian populace rose up in arms and freed both men, some interpretations suggest that Saint-Just refused to organize the popular forces. Arrested again by the Thermidorians, he was executed without trial by guillotine along with Robespierre and his supporters on 10 Thermidor. Their deaths marked the end of the Reign of Terror.
