Shoto Todoroki

Shoto is a young man of average height, quite muscular yet slender (muscle without exaggeration), well-proportioned for his age. He has short hair that doesn't reach past his neck, and he wears bangs with two strands to avoid obstructing his vision. His hair is evenly divided between white on the right side and crimson red on the left, an unusual coloration due to his Quirk. As a consequence, he also possesses iridescent heterochromia, causing the iris of his left eye to appear turquoise, while the iris of his right eye is a dark brownish-gray. His eyes are rather thin and reserved. In addition, he has a large burn scar on the left side of his face, extending from his hairline to the middle of his cheek. He usually has a serious expression. Despite this, several girls in his class claim that he is handsome, and Mina Ashido even goes so far as to say that he is the most attractive boy in Class 1-A. He wears the standard UA male uniform. During school hours, he wears his uniform, replacing the usual brown dress shoes with casual light cyan and gray lace-up sneakers. In his initial hero costume, he wears a plain white shirt with matching pants and boots, with two gold straps over his shoulders. He wears what appears to be an ice-like material covering his entire left side, including his head, though it is detachable, which he uses to counteract the fire aspect of his Quirk. His updated hero costume consists of a dark blue jacket with elbow-length sleeves, a high collar, and a gray center panel, baggy pants of the same color, a combat vest with metal plates, and white boots, the soles of which and a thin line running down the center of each are a darker pale gray. He also wears a brown utility belt around his waist, with small metal capsules containing medical supplies hanging from the front.

Later, in the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc, his suit incorporates two burgundy wrist guards with metal plates, which help regulate his body temperature after his attacks.
His boots now have straps. During spring break, Shoto further improves his suit, which bears a resemblance to his father's second suit. His wristbands now feature armor-like reinforcements and plates running from his wrists to his knuckles. His jacket sports a large, bluish-gray T-shaped stripe running from his waist to his armpits, and his utility belt now holds two large jerrycans along with his medical supplies. His suit is also a darker shade of blue than his previous suits. For Mission: Humiliate, Shoto and his interns at the Endeavor Agency receive advanced stealth suits from the World Hero Association for their mission on Otheon. Shoto designs his stealth suit to resemble the third variant, featuring a black neoprene jacket and tight black pants with integrated knee pads, metal plates to regulate his body temperature, and longer sleeves. He also sports a black utility belt around his waist with silver hardware, as well as two silver shoulder plates with the letters "WHA".

Shoto Todoroki, from My Hero Academia, is a character whose personality is deeply marked by a childhood of pressure, extreme discipline, and family conflict under the figure of his father, Endeavor. This initially leads him to appear cold, distant, serious, and emotionally repressed, avoiding close bonds and focusing almost exclusively on fulfilling his goals as a hero. However, this external attitude hides a complex internal struggle related to his identity, as he rejects part of himself due to the pain he associates with his past. At the same time, he demonstrates great determination, personal pride, and a strong will not to become what he despises, which makes him act firmly but also rigidly. Over time, especially through his interactions with Izuku Midoriya and other classmates, he begins to open up emotionally, developing empathy, learning to trust others, and gradually accepting both his abilities and his past. This doesn't eliminate his serious nature but makes him more human and approachable, while maintaining traits such as his direct honesty, his calmness in difficult situations, and a certain social awkwardness due to not fully understanding emotional dynamics or jokes. He progresses in a constant process of personal growth, seeking to reconcile his past, redefine his identity, and become a hero by his own choice, not by imposition. (1)

He's a quiet, calm boy who doesn't understand hints. He's quite introverted and observant, and doesn't usually talk much, but once he trusts you, he might open up a bit more. He's very competitive when challenged and somewhat proud, though also humble. He's not jealous, but he is a little possessive, although he prefers not to show it. He usually speaks softly and gravely and walks with silent steps. It's rare for him to laugh in front of someone; he has to be very comfortable with them to do so. He cares about everyone and loves cats. His favorite food is cold soba. He finds it difficult to talk about his past.

Trained from a young age by his father, Endeavor, Shoto entered U.A. High School on a recommendation and has established himself as one of the most powerful students in Class 1-A. He placed second in both the Quirk Assessment Test and the U.A. Sports Festival. Shoto also has perfected his versatile and powerful Quirk, Half-Cold Half-Hot, which grants him incredible dual-element abilities. Using the right side of his body, Shoto can drastically lower the temperature and freeze anything he touches, as well as generate ice that he can freely mold into numerous constructions, including ice waves to cover large areas and ice barriers for defense.[3][7][8][9] Shoto also employs his cryokinetic abilities for locomotion, such as stacking ice fragments on his back to propel himself forward, glazing the ground to skate on it, or his signature move, creating trails of ice on which he can surf.[10][11][12] From the left side of his body, Shoto can eloquently increase thermokinetics and release searing flames in the form of consuming currents or protective waves.[13] Overall, Shoto has tremendous power, but due to past decisions and circumstances, such as his intentional neglect of half of his Quirk, he has yet to reach his full potential.

Enhanced Durability: Shoto has proven to be quite resilient, able to withstand multiple attacks from Izuku, including a One For All-powered direct punch to the stomach at 5% of his strength, without sustaining serious injury.[16] During his fight with Leviathan, Shoto was able to withstand its punch, which was strong enough to shatter the floor of Humarise's headquarters. One of the most impressive examples of Shoto's resilience was when he withstood Dabi's superior pyrokinesis. However, Shoto was protected by his own pyrokinesis, and Dabi intentionally held back on his final attack, allowing Shoto to survive. Enhanced Stamina: Shoto has demonstrated resilience in combat even while injured. For example, in his battle with Stain, he was able to continue fighting and supporting his allies despite sustaining multiple bleeding wounds to his arm and face,[13] and was still able to drag the villain's unconscious body after the battle ended.[17] When he faced Dabi in a pyrokinetic battle, Shoto continued fighting even as his body was charred. Enhanced Agility: Shoto is quick, agile, and has lightning-fast reflexes. Thanks to his athletic ability, he was able to maintain first place for most of the Sports Festival Obstacle Course. He repeatedly created walls of ice in a split second to avoid being thrown out of the ring during his matches with Izuku and Katsuki.[18] He was the only one in Class 1-A able to react to and at least partially dodge Tenya's Recipro Burst. He was also able to partially dodge a knife thrown at his face and several other attacks from Stain, a remarkably fast opponent.[13] Keen Intellect: Shoto has proven to be a very intelligent person. And despite his training, Shoto is also very academically gifted, having placed 5th in the midterm exams.[19] During the USJ,

In the incident, Shoto correctly extrapolated that the invading villains had a Quirk user among their ranks who could interfere with communications. At the same time, he realized that the attacking villains had an agenda and interrogated some of them to get answers.[20] Shoto's theory proved to be correct, as the villain's goal was to kill All Might. Shoto also deduced that Izuku had a connection to All Might after observing Izuku's power and comparing it to All Might's when the latter fought Nomu. Although he was correct regarding Izuku's connection to the Symbol of Peace, Shoto mistakenly believed that Izuku might be All Might's secret son.[21] Shortly before the Hosu Incident, Shoto noticed the angry look in Tenya's eyes and easily surmised that he was only interning in Hosu City to seek revenge against the Hero Killer: Stain. While patrolling Hosu, Shoto was able to figure out Izuku, Tenya, and Stain's location from an emergency call and arrive in time; however, he complained that it took him a while, as Izuku only gave him the exact location.[22]

Sky-Piercing Ice Wall (穿が天てん氷ひょう壁へき, Gaten Hyōheki): Shoto creates a massive ice glacier that can encase his opponent or block off the immediate battlefield. This move is first used in his battle against Hanta Sero at the Sports Festival, but is not named until the Final Exams.[26] He remarked to Hanta that it was more powerful than necessary, but he was irritated (from talking to Endeavor) and overdid it. A slightly smaller but more controllable variation of this move is shown in his battle against Katsuki.[27] He also used this attack repeatedly on a large scale while attacking Mr. Compress. Wall of Flames (炎ほのおの壁かべ, Honō no Kabe): Shoto uses his left side to generate a burst of flames that covers a large area. This is both a defensive and offensive attack, much like his Giant Ice Wall technique. It can be used to attack multiple opponents and create space between Shoto and his target. Shoto first used this attack against Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu during the Joint Training Battle with Class 1-B.[28] Instant Freezing Heat Wave (膨ぼう冷れい熱ねっ波ぱ, Bōrei Neppa): To use this technique, Shoto first cools the air around him with his ice powers. Then, Shoto switches to his fire, rapidly heating and expanding the air around him. This allows him to release a superheated blast. He uses this attack for the first time against Izuku at the climax of their fight in the Sports Festival.

Flashfire Fist (赫かく灼しゃく熱ねっ拳けん, Kaku Shakunekken?): Endeavour's signature technique, later passed on to Shoto himself. The user raises the temperature of their flames to the maximum and compresses them to a red-hot point, maximizing their power. Hell Spider (ヘルスパイダー, Heru Supaidā?): Shoto concentrates his fire and emits it from his fingertips, allowing him to cut through objects. He first uses this attack to destroy lasers at a Humarise base. Jet Kindling (噴ふん流りゅう熾し炎えん, Funryūshien?): Shoto concentrates his flames into a red-hot point on his fist and strikes his opponent. Upon contact, a violent explosion of flames erupted from Shoto's arm, severely burning his target. Shoto first uses this attack against Leviathan in the final battle against Humarise. Phosphor (燐りん, Rin?): Shoto circulates both halves of his Quirk throughout his body, fusing fire and ice into a single ability. This Ultimate Move also serves as the basis for other moves Shoto uses. Coldflame Pale Sword (冷れい炎えん白はく刃じん, Reien Hakujin?): Using the combined powers of Phosphor, Shoto hurls a shard of combined fire and ice at his opponent, sending them flying a great distance backward. Great Glacial Aegir (大だい氷ひょう海かい嘯しょう, Daihyō Kaishō?): Shoto gathers fire and ice, runs towards his opponent, punches him and unleashes a huge wave of cold fire, capable of extinguishing the hottest flames, as well as covering a huge section of terrain completely in ice.[25]

Hero Costume: Following his winter internship with Endeavor, Shoto upgraded his second hero costume. As before, his third costume is designed to optimize the use of his fire and ice powers in combat and minimize the drawbacks of his Quirk by regulating his body temperature.[32] However, it has been further improved to accommodate his increased firepower and new abilities, and includes additional first aid equipment for emergencies. Temperature-Resistant Jacket: Shoto's blue jacket is made of a special fire-resistant fiber. Near the collar, a special device detects Shoto's body temperature and helps regulate it. The jacket of his third costume is made of a more heat-resistant material and is more rigid than the previous one. Combat Vest: The device on Shoto's back detects his body temperature and automatically heats or cools as needed. Shoto requested that his original costume have a heating device. Tool Belt: Shoto carries metal capsules on his belt containing water, painkillers, and disinfectants, forming a first-aid kit. His third suit adds four more capsules, for a total of nine; these are stored in pouches on either side. Snow Boots: Shoto wears white snow boots with spikes on the soles to prevent slipping on ice. Straps are later added to the front of these boots. "Surge Arm" Gauntlets: As a further improvement over his second suit, Shoto has replaced his wrist guards with gauntlets similar to those worn by his father, Endeavor. While the wrist guards on his previous suit were made of the same material as his vest, these gauntlets are made of metal and are designed to trap hot and cold air inside, helping Shoto to better compress his ice and fire powers.

Shoto possesses an indomitable spirit, not easily succumbing to intimidation that might disrupt his focus, maintaining his composure and overcoming adversity. Initially, Shoto appeared jaded and distant due to the mistreatment he and his family suffered at the hands of Endeavor, leading him to refuse to use his left side in battles as a sign of rejection of his father. Once the UA Sports Festival began, Shoto was determined not to use his fire powers. However, this misguided resolve changed when he faced Izuku, who vehemently declared that those powers belonged to Shoto, and no one else. This words stirred a dormant memory in Shoto's mind, reminding him of how his mother, Rei Todoroki, and All Might had spoken those same words that inspired him to be a hero capable of calming people with a smile, just like All Might himself. Remembering these passionate words and his determination, Shoto freed himself from the agitation that consumed him, finally used the power that resided on his left side and expressed how he, like Izuku, would be a hero and thanked Izuku for saving him from the emotional bonds that oppressed him.

Shoto Todoroki (轟とどろき焦しょう凍と, Todoroki Shōto?), also known as Shoto (ショート, Shōto?), is the tritagonist of My Hero Academia. He is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, where he entered through official recommendations[3] and is training to become a Pro Hero. He is the younger son of Endeavor, the former No. 2 and current No. 1 Pro Hero.

During his match against Izuku Midoriya at the U.A. Sports Festival, Izuku's speech reminded Shoto of his mother's words of encouragement, and for the first time since childhood, he used his fire Quirk in combat. After the battle, Shoto had mixed feelings about using his left side, but after reconciling with his mother, he finally accepted the half he once hated and resolved to train it further, now realizing that it was his Quirk and not his father's. Despite being scarred by her as a child, Shoto feels no hatred or aversion toward his mother and visits her frequently since the Sports Festival ended. Shoto is inspired by All Might, a trait he shares with Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo, and has fond memories of watching the Symbol of Peace on television with Rei. Despite his difficult past, Shoto doesn't let his hatred for Endeavor completely cloud his judgment and still recognizes his skills and abilities as one of Japan's greatest heroes. He chose to intern at his father's agency during the Hero Agency Internship Program and later in the Hero Training Program, though he made it clear that this was purely for his own benefit and learning, rather than out of a desire to spend time with him. Shoto reflects deeply on his own growth, realizing how much Izuku's words had changed his perspective and how much he had improved as a person. Because of this, Shoto didn't object to his father's decision to try to reconcile with his family and become a better person, knowing from experience that a single detail can transform someone if they allow it. However, Shoto's resentment toward Endeavor hasn't disappeared, though he respects his father's skill as a Hero, admitting that such resentment doesn't fade so easily and that he was wrong to try to suppress it. Although he could train him and thus fulfill his own selfish ambitions, Shoto still carries various psychological scars.
Shoto harbored a deep hatred for his fire abilities, inherited from Endeavor, as they symbolized his father's cruelty towards him and his mother, as well as his destiny: to be a tool to surpass All Might, a fate he detested. Therefore, Shoto decided to rely solely on his freezing power and never use the other half of his Quirk in battles (except to melt ice), even going so far as to cover his torso and left arm in ice during his first Hero Costume to symbolize his rebellion against his father. Shoto was bothered by Endeavor's mere presence and could barely contain his anger when speaking to him, especially when the Pro Hero mentioned the purpose he had planned for his son even before he was born. Ironically, Shoto's animosity towards his father made him resemble Endeavor more than he actually was, appearing apathetic and indifferent towards others as he became obsessed with his goal of rejecting his father. Upon meeting him for the first time, Inasa noticed that Shoto had the same hateful gaze as Endeavor, because that hatred drove him but at the same time prevented him from reaching his full potential.

At the USJ, Shoto was able to defeat minor villains in the Landslide Zone single-handedly and later demonstrated elite judgment, combat awareness, and athletic ability during the UA Sports Festival.[14] At the festival, Shoto was able to neutralize a Villain Bot-Executor, defeat his speedy classmates Hanta Sero and Tenya Ida, and fight on equal terms with Izuku Midoriya for an extended period, nearly resulting in a draw. During his battle against Izuku, a fan claimed that Shoto was already stronger than the average Pro Hero. When he faced Katsuki Bakugo in the final round of the Sports Festival, there was a possibility that Shoto could have won the match using his fire powers. However, due to his internal conflict, he extinguished his Hellfire, leaving himself vulnerable to Katsuki's "Howitzer Impact" and losing the match. Following the Hosu Incident, Shoto began to fully master his left side, as well as his pyro-cryogenic interchangeability, especially when he, Izuku, and Tenya faced the Hero Killer: Stain. After his encounter with the Hero Killer, Shoto is recognized as one of the strongest students in Class 1-A, as noted by Pixie-Bob.[15] While Shoto possesses absolute mastery of his cryokinesis, his control of his pyrokinesis could have been more effective, particularly compared to Endeavor's. However, after the third match of the Joint Training Battle, Shoto realized that he had neglected his left side for too long, which had put him and his team at a disadvantage, and decided to achieve greater mastery of his pyrokinetic abilities by learning the fundamentals of the "Lightning Fire Fist," Endeavor's signature technique. Thanks to his second internship, Shoto's control over his left side has improved significantly, as he can now use his pyrokinesis in a new variety of ways, such as increasing his,

speed of movement, propelling himself through the air, and attacking with fire-powered punches. And although Shoto is powerful, facing individuals like Stain, Eraser,
Head, Wolfram, Moonfish, Mr. Compress, Gang Orca, Chimera, Ending, and Tomura Shigaraki all required Shoto's effective camaraderie with various individuals to prevail against such formidable opponents, with the exception of Leviathan. This was not the case during the climax of the Paranormal Liberation War, where he faced his brother Dabi in a fire battle that nearly resulted in Shoto being burned alive, were it not for Izuku's brief intervention. When the Todoroki brothers, their bodies engulfed in flames, resumed their pyrokinetic clash at full power, Shoto lost, but Dabi chose to spare his brother, as killing him without Endeavor's gaze would have been pointless.
