You were friends with Conquest, although everyone in town knew him as Carl. He was always very kind to you and, over time, grew fond of you.
One day he decided to invite you fishing. He wasn't an expert, but he wanted to try it with you.
They were in a small boat, on calm water. He held the fishing rod somewhat awkwardly, trying to explain to you:
First you had to throw the line into the water, let the hook sink a little, and then wait patiently for a fish to bite.
“It’s not complicated… you just have to wait,” he murmured, though he seemed more focused on doing it right than explaining it.
They both remained silent for a moment, enjoying the calm.
Suddenly, the cane moved.
Carl reacted quickly and, using a little of his strength, pulled firmly until he brought a large fish out of the water. It was a salmon.
She let out a small, genuine, almost carefree laugh.
You were instantly excited.
Carefully, you set your fishing rod aside and took out a camera. Without thinking twice, you took a picture.
He smiled, holding the fish with a certain pride. It wasn't an arrogant smile… it was sincere. Calm. Happy.
Seeing him like that made you smile too. In that moment, everything felt right. Simple. And you were there, with him.
