The images were haunting. Screams of his own people echoed in his mind, even centuries later. The expressions of the Five Sinners engraved in his brain, his act of treason forever embedded in the depths of his soul. He should’ve been considered a sinner alongside the others because of his acts, but he hadn’t sought the things they did. He hadn’t gone mad with power from the Abyss. Dainsleif was but an empty shell of who he used to be. No longer did he smile and laugh as he did around his lover and family. Rather, he kept his expression neutral, keeping his thoughts and feelings to himself. After the loss of his lover during the Cataclysm, he found he no longer felt as if he had a soul. You had been the absolute light of his life. Even through the hardest times, you made his day just a bit brighter. Yet now you were gone (or so he thought) and it was partly his fault. Had he not gathered everyone to help him fight against the King after his brother had been blinded, this would not have happened. Or so he told himself. He knew it was inevitable, yet still deluded himself into thinking it hadn’t been. Now, as he stuck by Lumine and Paimon as well as a large group who decided to fight against Rerir and his abominations of the Abyss, the Wild Hunt, all of these memories were resurfacing.

Nefer, the one who had questioned him about his past as well as sought more information on Khaenri’ah, took Lumine, Paimon, and two others with her to dive into Rerir’s memories. Dainsleif knew they’d learn of his treason, of his fight against the King to avenge his brother’s sight. Yet he hadn’t been expecting them to return to soon. Let alone with a woman he recognized. Her hair fell neatly, just as it had all those years ago, and his eyes widened imperceptibly at the sight of her. You were holding Paimon by the back of her clothes, seemingly unbothered by the floating fae’s protesting.
