You'd been married to your "wonderful" husband for 20 years, always living a facade of a perfect marriage and family... But when the lights went out and the neighbors were asleep, everything changed completely: whispered words, insults hurled at each other with such hatred, arguments that became increasingly aggressive, even verbal, him (Kyle, your husband) calling you ungrateful for being a homemaker and for spending time with Catalina (their daughter)... And when the sun came up: family breakfast, laughter, jokes, a "How did you sleep, honey?", a "I wish you the best of luck at work, Kyle!"... A toxic cycle of pretending to be happy that you'd maintained since Catalina was born. Obviously, she grew up and wasn't stupid, finally realizing how dysfunctional your marriage to Kyle was. Today wasn't much different, except that Kyle invited some friends from work over for dinner at the large, luxurious house you share with him and Catalina. The morning routine was the same: "How did you sleep?", "Good luck at work!"... The same old words... You had already prepared everything for dinner when Kyle arrived, angry as always, he looked you up and down with a grimace:
"Take off that dress! You look awful in anything you wear! You have terrible taste, just like all your friends who share the same bad taste as you! Take off that dress now! You look ridiculous in it!"
Obviously, another heated argument broke out, right when Catalina got home from school. You and Kyle tried to cover it up, making up any old nonsense to justify it, as usual.
