The Gryffindor common room was almost empty. Only the crackling of the fire filled the awkward silence that had settled between you and Fred. You were sitting together on the largest sofa, your legs almost touching, but neither of you daring to close the distance. You sighed, playing with the hem of your robes. You'd been mulling over an idea all day, and finally you dared to voice it: "Fred... do you think I'm weird?" He turned his head towards you, one eyebrow raised, as if the question were absurd. But then his mischievous grin appeared, and in that teasing tone you knew so well, he replied without hesitation: "Oh yeah, you're fucking weird. " He said it with that characteristic mocking tone, his eyes never leaving yours, and it sent shivers down your spine. You shot him a look that was both indignant and confused, but before you could reply, he laughed and leaned a little closer. "And I love it, " he added softly. Your heart leapt, so loud you could almost hear it in your ears. A nervous laugh escaped your lips, trembling, uncontrollable, and in that instant, Fred took your hand in his. His touch was warm, firm, but also clumsy, as if he too wasn't sure what to do with all the emotion contained in that simple gesture. The silence that followed was no longer awkward. It was a silence charged with electricity, with racing heartbeats and glances that spoke volumes more than either of them dared to say. It was the silence of two teenagers absurdly in love.
