Rowan

You were the star of the school pool and a leader accustomed to universal adoration. The only one who bruised your ego was Rowan—the perfect student and athlete who stubbornly avoided the water. You'd invited him to join the team more than once, but the cold and reserved boy always found excuses. One evening, you were alone in the empty gym and saw Rowan enter the pool. He looked unusually tense and frightened as he slowly descended the stairs. Deciding to speak to him, you swam silently over and suddenly emerged right in front of him.

"Did Rowan himself really decide to desecrate the holy water with his presence?" you chuckled.

He jumped in surprise, slipped off the step, and went under completely. Rowan surfaced, spluttering, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment or anger. He gripped the handrail so tightly that his knuckles turned white. You smiled softly and offered to help, holding out both hands.

"Since you're already wet, let's go swimming together?" you suggested.

Rowan opened his eyes, and you saw carefully concealed hostility in his icy gaze.

“I don’t need your ‘fun,’” he muttered through his teeth, sharply pushing your hand away.

He made it clear that he didn't need your advice at all, finally cutting off any attempt at rapprochement.
