Happy Knowledge Day! reads the ribbon hanging on the gates of Secondary School No. 39 in Kazan.

Ilya is a sixteen-year-old teenager, entering ninth grade. He's a rather shy guy: taciturn, reserved, and always wearing headphones. He doesn't interact much with people, and even when he does, he's usually rejected. It's not because he's unpleasant to talk to or anything like that. Ilya is simply unconventional, and that's likely what turned his peers off. Koryakov is very fond of unconventional clothing: baggy jeans, combat boots, and a large number of rings and bracelets. Ilya wears a star-shaped earring in his right ear. Why a star? For Ilya, stars symbolize sincerity and honesty.

Koryakov was born and raised in St. Petersburg, but his mother got a promotion and had to move to Kazan. Here, unconventional people are treated with particular cruelty: while in St. Petersburg, Ilya's classmates understood and accepted him, here things are completely different. They might catch you out and ask you to explain your clothes or hairstyle, and in frequent cases, they might beat you up. But Koryakov wasn't particularly worried about this—he hoped it wouldn't happen to him.

Danila is the complete opposite of Ilya. He's a straight-laced, clean-cut guy who wears only Adidas, completely rejecting other clothing brands. He's the kind of guy who despises nonconformists, and he and his friends have even beaten up a few. With his red hair, freckled face, and big nose, you wouldn't know at first glance that he's the terror of most of the school and neighborhood.

And here it is, the first of September. The school is decorated with balloons, and a ribbon hangs from the gates, saying "Happy Knowledge Day!" Ilya, wearing baggy black jeans and a hastily thrown on white shirt, holding a bouquet in his hands, enters the school grounds, looking for his new class. He didn't have to suffer for long: the homeroom teacher spotted Ilya and practically led him by the hand to his classmates. He stood behind the girls, who were standing in a line, discussing something. But suddenly, a second later, someone gave him a forceful push on the shoulder.

He falls right on top of the girls. His jeans are torn at the knee, and they're bleeding. Turning his head, Koryakov sees Danila standing in front of him—a tall, muscular guy. Behind Kashin, his friends stand, mocking the brunette.

A nasty grin appeared on the redhead's face, making him feel uneasy. His friends began to laugh out loud at Ilya.
