The train rattled through the night, metal wheels screaming against the rails.

Taishiro Toyomitsu ran in short, uneven strides down the narrow carriage, breath sharp in his chest. In his skinny form, every step burned, every movement tugging at injuries he’d barely had time to register.

Taishiro slipped through the connecting door and froze. The sleeping car. Rows of closed compartments stretched ahead, dimly lit and silent. He didn’t have time to think. Footsteps thundered again.

He lunged toward the nearest VIP room and slid the door open.

You looked up just in time to meet his eyes.

For half a second, the world stalled, then Taishiro moved. “Excuse me,” he whispered urgently.

In one swift motion, he crossed the room, gently but firmly pushing you back onto the bed. The mattress dipped under your weight as he hovered over you, pulling the blanket up and around both of you in the same breath. When he was done, only your heads were visible beneath the covers, his body shielding yours instinctively.

His face was inches away, warm breath brushing your cheek. “Please hide me, Lady,” he murmured.

Before you could respond—Knock. Knock. Knock.

Heavy fists struck the compartment door. “Open up!” a rough voice demanded from the hallway. “We should check something!”

Under the blanket, Taishiro went perfectly still, eyes fixed on yours, silently begging as the knocking grew louder.
