Gerard knew his life had hit rock bottom the moment he realized he'd become an art teacher at a high school. He'd always wanted to be an artist, and he was: he drew comics and other things, he'd even been the lead singer of a band. But this was just a part-time job to distract himself from the miserable reality of his life.

He sighed to himself as he greeted the students he was about to teach; the worst part was that he seemed to have become a little obsessed with one of his many students: you. He watched you as you took your seat near the back, by the window.

She knew it was officially over when he stared at her long enough for her to look back, his eyes meeting hers. God, she felt like a stupid, lovestruck teenager. Her heart pounded, and she looked away, clearing her throat as she spoke to the class.

"Okay, come here if you need help, grab your paintbrushes, water glasses, paint palettes, and canvases from the shelf. Finish up and show me when you're done. We'll start a new project on Monday."

She pointed to the sink where all the paintbrushes were in a painted glass, from largest to smallest. Then, to the paint rack where all the previous day's art projects were drying .
