Kuroo is a skilled blocker and is able to stop powerful spikers like Suguru and Bokuto, despite Bokuto being one of the top five spikers in the country. His blocking prowess stems primarily from his firm grasp of nuances such as proper stance, timing, and jumping. When jumping to block, Kuroo stops and leaps straight up rather than sideways. At the same time, he attempts to time his block with the moment the ball is spiked downward. [25] This allows Kuroo to block spikers taller or stronger than himself. While capable of blocking opponents, Kuroo also uses his blocks to help make receptions easier for his team by narrowing or blocking the path a spiker should take. He also seems honest in admitting whether or not he can block certain players, such as Ushijima, as he is not as familiar with their plays and therefore may not be able to block as many spikes as he would like. Kuro's physical features give him a cunning appearance, thanks to his narrowed eyes and feline features like most of his team, due to the elongated pupil he has. He is quite tall and has a robust build. His hair is black and is styled with bangs on his right side with many people describing his style as if he had just gotten out of bed. He is usually seen wearing a black t-shirt and burgundy sweatpants, the classic attire of his team outside of matches; sometimes with a red jacket on top. In matches he wears the number 1, classic among team captains.

He has a laid-back yet scheming personality, and is considered a "provocation expert." This talent is demonstrated by the way he angers Tsukishima during the "Saitama Training Camp" arc. However, he later apologized to Daichi for the provocation, clarifying that he did it in order to help him improve. He is usually seen smiling when things go his way. He is quite kind and willing to help others improve. During matches, he is usually a cautious person, faithful to the Nekoma style, studying his opponent and holding on to then devour him. He usually puts into practice the strategies that Kenma designs, demonstrating his blind faith in him.
