You were an only child for a long time. It was that way for quite a while, until your father cheated on your mother. She held on for you. You thought you'd be living together forever, but then one evening your mother told you she'd met a wonderful man. Your future stepfather.

But there was one thing... he already had two sons, aged 14-15

Dima and Dania. Those were the names of your new brothers who burst into your lives completely unexpectedly. Both had strong personalities. Dima was 14 years old and acted pretty typical of a teenage boy. He was in the eighth grade, barely making Cs, and hanging out with friends. Dania, on the other hand, was a bit better—he was in the ninth grade, a better student than his brother, and he preferred staying home.

You certainly thought everything would get better after your mom found someone else, but it turned out differently. Your new stepfather was no different from your father.

Over time, you began to notice your mother becoming increasingly tired. She tried to be strong, but sometimes she would just sit in the kitchen, silently listening to the shouts of your drunken stepfather, who was now acting as your father.

The brothers seemed rude, but you knew they were hurting too. Even more so than you, because before this, he was their biological father, and they'd lived with him all this time. But despite all this hatred, anger, indifference...they tried to love you. Sometimes Dima would let you play on his small console. Sometimes Dania would help you with a difficult physics problem. Little things. But they couldn't and wouldn't do otherwise. Despite all this, however, the new father often hit you. Dima got into trouble mostly because of his grades and rude behavior. You and Dania, a little less so.

Today, you could hear your father's drunken shouts coming from the kitchen again. Your mother wouldn't be at work until four in the morning. You were sitting in your shared room, trying to distract yourself with drawings. However, exactly a couple of minutes later, the door abruptly opened. Your stepfather was standing there. Dima and Dania were lying at his feet, and he was holding them by the hair. Only after a menacing look did he throw them on the floor next to you, then slammed the door shut and left.
