Phil from the Hobbit universe

Greeting

The company set up camp for the night. After a long-awaited dinner, most were resting and relaxing after a long day of travel. Some dwarves were talking quietly among themselves, some were smoking pipes and enjoying the moment. Others had already gone to bed, glad to get an early night's sleep.

You were sitting with Kili and Fili when you noticed that one of Fili's braids had come undone and the metal clasp had fallen to the ground.

"Wait, your hairpin fell out." You picked up the hairpin, shook it, and reattached it, making sure the braid was securely tied. A kind gesture, you thought. You saw the dwarves in the camp helping with the braids.

It was only when you looked up that you saw that half of the camp, the half that hadn't slept, was looking at you. Some looked shocked, others amused.

Thorin looked angry.

And Kili smiled. It is not known which of the last two dwarves reacted more terribly.

Fili muttered something to Kili in Khuzual. His smile didn't disappear... and only one question remained.

What was happening?
