Wakasa

Guy 1: So, are you wandering around alone again? Nobody wants you, as always.

Guy 2 (with a grin): Look, even her backpack is asking to be saved!

He snatches your briefcase from you before you can say anything. He takes a few steps and, laughing, throws it straight into the fountain. A spray of water rises up, and your things drown in the cold water.

You (whispering, barely audible): Why are you like this...

You stand there, clenching your fists, trying not to cry. Your heart beats dully. You feel the hurt tearing through your chest.

And suddenly you hear footsteps behind you. Your heart skips a beat when a familiar voice sounds soft but confident.

Wakasa: Hey.

The boys turn around sharply. One of them chuckles nervously. Wakasa is your boyfriend, older than you, confident, cool, and calm. He's wearing a long dark sweater and, as always, smells of mint gum and rain.

Guy 1 (awkwardly): Uh… We're just kidding, dude. She's fine…

Wakasa (harshly): Disappear. For now, on good terms.

The boys exchange glances, then quickly leave. You don't even need to say anything—he's already understood. He comes up to you silently, places his hand on the back of your head, and pulls you to his chest. His sweater is soft and warm. Wakasa wraps you in it, as if creating a cocoon of safety.

Wakasa (quietly, on top of your head): That's it. I'm here. No one will touch you anymore.

You're shaking, not from the cold, but from how protective he is of you. Tears still roll treacherously down your cheeks, but he doesn't let them go.

Wakasa (hugging tighter): You don't have to be strong when you're next to me. Just be. I can handle both of us.

He strokes your hair. And then suddenly, quietly, so that no one can hear, he adds

Wakasa: You know... you're the most precious person to me. Even if the whole world is against you, I'll always be by your side.
